There are multiple thoughts that people have regarding technology, but most of the time what I hear is negative—that technology has taken over many jobs and has affected human beings and their health. Some people say that individuals are becoming lazy because of the convenience they are getting. I wonder, what if there were no technology? How would life look? ✨ Imagine sending a message to someone and waiting for a pigeon to reach the destination. ✨ Imagine wanting to eat something and having to start a fire using stones. ✨ Imagine getting into an accident and being operated on without anesthesia. ✨ Imagine living on an island, with the whole world being that single island." That would be real difficulty and problem. I would love to hear your thoughts on that. #thoughts #thinking #discussion #Technology #grow

For 2025 I'm committing to a proper system for deep work and (ultimately) free up more time to relax and recover despite being a solo startup founder. A few months ago I was successful in switching to "Getting Things Done" methodology for email (here's a great, simple guide for Gmail: https://lnkd.in/gq7M87ng) and I found that alone incredibly helpful. Now it's time to really dial in on structuring my day and tasks--particularly when it comes to fostering what is now called "deep work" or "deep focus." I've been a big fan of Cal Newport's work for a few years and just never committed to adopting this system, but I know my capabilities are suffering due to fragmented attention and inefficient use of short term memory and brain power. Making this switch is deceivingly difficult because it involves a lot of rewiring of engrained thought patterns and habits. I think it's important to work on smaller more manageable steps rather than trying to switch your entire "operating system" all at once. But once you reach that sweet spot where a new process becomes a habit, it's hard to imagine how you ever operated under the old system. I've experienced this countless times with new and initially-difficult tasks or processes that I've onboarded into habit, that now require little to no effort to do. Remember that every small positive change you repeat enough to make a habit builds into something much greater, much more powerful. Wishing everyone positive growth and transformation this New Year in the ways that are most meaningful to you. 🌱

🌐 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞? 🏡 In a world where high-speed connections are the norm, I can't help but reflect on a time when the internet was slower, but life seemed calmer. 📶 Back then, mental peace wasn't an afterthought—it was part of our daily rhythm. As we chase the next big tech innovation, let's not forget to nurture that inner peace and balance. After all, a fast connection means little if we're disconnected from ourselves. 💡 #Technology #MentalWellbeing #DigitalBalance #SelfCare #PersonalGrowth #shibusaaho

#CrazyTechStories: The Hidden Cost of Impossible Promises I was once part of a scene that epitomizes the perils of mismanaged technical projects. My boss, standing before his superior, confidently declared that results would materialize "Before he came into the office at 6 AM." As the sole individual qualified to assess the timeline, I knew this promise was a lie. As I began to interject, my boss's piercing gaze silenced me, revealing the toxic undercurrents of our work environment. This moment encapsulated a culture rife with hostility, where raised voices were common. What followed was a solo night of desperate innovation and Red Bull, a fruitless attempt to coax a 3-5x performance boost from an already optimized system. This isn't a tale of triumph over adversity, but a stark illustration of the pitfalls plaguing our industry. Committing to unattainable deadlines isn't just poor practice—it's the cornerstone of technical debt. This behavior breeds non-scalable teams and employee burnout, eroding the foundation of sustainable development. Moreover, a leadership style that unilaterally sets timelines without consulting those doing the work is a recipe for disaster. In retrospect, I'm grateful for the perspective this experience afforded me. Sound bad? It can be much worse. Once when doing HPC benchmarking for Dell Technologies with my own startup I co-founded we spent the night benchmarking for 48hrs on a new compute node. Dell reps checked the numbers and said: "These numbers are incredible! We haven't seen utilization numbers like this before.". I said, "It's amazing how fast your code runs when you have to feed your kids.". Everyone laughed but me, they thought I was joking. Later in my life I've learned urgency will always be there, but committing to unrealistic timelines/deadlines doesn't have to be. I like to say startups stretch you between urgency and strategy, you need both to survive.
