Considering a reliable roof for your commercial building? Built-up roofing (BUR) systems are a time-tested option known for their durability and waterproofing. BUR systems are layered marvels. Imagine a flat roof where asphalt and ply sheets alternate, building a strong, water-resistant barrier. A final layer of gravel tops it off for protection against sun and physical damage. This strength comes at a cost. BUR installations are complex and require experienced professionals. However, the benefits can be substantial: ☑️ Durability: BUR roofs can last for decades with proper maintenance. ☑️ Waterproofing: The multiple layers create a formidable barrier against leaks. ☑️ Versatility: BUR systems can be customized with the number of plies depending on your needs. Considering a BUR roof? Consult The Roof Technician today, a certified roofer, to discuss your options and ensure a high-quality installation. 🌐 https://lnkd.in/diHpifuG 📞 (416) 826-0040 ✉️ info@therooftechnician.com #homeimprovementprojects #roofingspecialists #roofingsystem #homeimprovementcontractor #torontoroofing

When I first told friends I was going into roofing, I got the looks 👀 You know, the raised eyebrows, the subtle (and not-so-subtle) judgments. “Out of everything you could do, you’re going to be a roofer!?” they’d ask. See here’s the thing A lot of people think a good job is sitting in a fancy office with a nice view. That’s true for some, yeah But to me, a good job is one where you ✅ Solve real problems, help people, and earn a living doing it. ✅ Get to be on the field and doing work with your hands. That’s EXACTLY what I do as a roofer. The reality is, some folks judge blue-collar workers. They don’t see the potential, the growth, or the pride in building something with your own hands. But I do. And I have so much PRIDE in it. This country was built by tradespeople—builders, framers, electricians, plumbers, roofers. That legacy means something to me. I love it, and that’s what matters. Let’s get it!! 👊🏼🚀 Your roofing guy, Melvyn #desmoines #roofing #skilledtrades #bluecollarpride #construction #roofinglife #constructionlife #careerjourney #propertymanagement #multifamily

If my roof is damaged, can I carry out repair work myself? Whether you can repair your roof yourself, depends on several factors and comes with significant risks: Safety: Roof work is inherently dangerous, especially at height. Falls, slips, and exposure to falling objects are major risks. Lack of proper training and equipment can significantly increase these dangers. Building regulations: Depending on the repair's complexity and scope, it might need to comply with building regulations. DIY repairs may not meet these standards, potentially leading to legal issues or insurance issues in the future. Expertise: Complex repairs require specialized knowledge and skills. Attempting them without proper training can lead to further damage, making subsequent professional repairs more expensive. Warranties: Improper repairs can void manufacturer warranties on your roofing materials. Overall, for any major or complex repairs, especially involving significant height or structural work, it's strongly recommended to hire a qualified roofer.

I have two projects to work on today. First one is half done - I put the roast in the crock pot, with potato's, carrots, celery, onion, a cup of water and Liptons onion soup mix. Set the crock pot on low and set the timer for 8 hours. The second one is started - bought 4 2"x8"x10' pine boards, 4 4"x8" metal hangers (that I'll have to modify to work as I want), and a box of #9x3" screws. I made sure my power tool batteries were charged up and I'll be out on the roof in an hour to cut off some of the roofing material, plywood and broken truss's. Removal of everything broken is first, then replacement/repair comes later (probably early next week, since I'm working alone), The intent is to get the roof structurally sound, even if there's roof skin missing. Then, I'll temporarily skin the roof with felt paper and cold tar, to water proof it for winter. Then maybe next spring a roofer will replace the roof materials. I have to do this work myself, no roofer can get to the job this fall, and no roofing company does structural repairs. And no contractor within 200 miles can spare a day or two to fix the structure. They're all busy I guess. So - If you hear a loud scream and a thud - I fell off the roof or ladder.

Good day Gentlemen and ladies...all protocol duly observed ... My intent for sharing this is learning from incidents and to share safe or safety tips on how best to avoid such horrific incidents which can take place commonly in our various construction work sites and can claim the life of our employed work men .land slide and cave in can occur even in the process of digging a common trench as sewage tanks that are way deeper than 4ft Not minding the topography of the land. To avoid such incidents or accidents which could be disastrous and even fatal ,there are some practicable measures we should put in place and it goes as follows: Shielding: the act of using a hard woodwork or metal sheet well brazed to prevent cave in . Bench digging : digging in the form of a step down till you get to your desired depth , instead of digging in a. Shoring method Slope diging method. Our safety is our personal responsibility 😁 let's not be a victim or serve as a statistics but let's learn from events like this.

Excavations 70% done for Blocks C2 & C3 for #heyjoehotel. The water table is high at C2, making progress much slower as the guys need to creatively reroute the water away digging separate trenches and will have to pump water out and cast quickly, scheduled for next week. Today we cast the first section of surface beds at the Manor House (Block E), and will follow suit with Block D2 on Tuesday and D1 on Thursday, finishing the balance of Manor House next Saturday. Block C2 & C3 foundations to be cast by end of week next week too. We now have 5 blocks running concurrently, 4 more blocks to go… C1, B, A1 & A2. The site will be much busier next week with the addition of the Civils contractor and other sub-contractors such as the plumbers and electricians now firmly on board. The Civils poses a few interesting challenges, we need to connect the sewer line to the existing building and disconnect the current septic tank, and do away with it as this sits directly under Block A2. We have to hope gravity is in our favour and the connection point is conducive to allow a direct connection to the exiting building so as to allow the brewery and restaurant to continue to operate without any disturbances. We also need to do a significant box cut for the paved roads to provide for material to fill for building platforms, as our stock piles have run dry and we no longer have suitable material to filll. The levels of the building platforms have been raised quite significantly due to the high flood levels experienced last year. This is the end of week 6, 34 weeks to go 🔥
