Mississippi has no general law regulating the consideration of criminal records in employment. Unlike other states, it does not impose limits on application-stage inquiries for public employers. Individuals with criminal records may face challenges when seeking employment due to their past convictions. Pardons remove employment disabilities, and individuals with expunged criminal convictions need not disclose them if asked in connection with an employment application. Mississippi granted its last pardon in 2012 and with the strict expungement requirements and process, non-violent justice-involved Mississippians are locked out of the main source to their successful reentry - employment. Let's work together to unlock second chance employment opportunities for non-violent justice-involved Mississippians. This can increase with experience and promotions, with potential earnings reaching up to $142,595 at the GS-13 level. Not bad! Transitioning from a bench research scientist, I once contemplated a shift toward law enforcement. Interestingly, I considered nursing, the military, and law enforcement, with education initially ranking lower due to my aversion to working with middle school teens and teenagers. Surprisingly, I excelled and survived 22 secondary STEM educations, with my humble beginning as a bus driver. I applied for a law enforcement job. Despite not being chosen due to my typing speed—at least, that was what I was told then—I have always valued my career. Moreover, I was overqualified for the job at the time. This led me to pursue a fulfilling career path as an educator. Each career path, law enforcement, healthcare, and military, including teaching, offers fulfillment and stability, provided one is diligent and proficient in one's role. We also need more law enforcement officers. Application may require a college degree. Please check with the jurisdiction before applying. #LawEnforcement #MilitaryService #HearCareIndustries #Teachers #Educator

In 2009, Bet Tzedek’s Employment Rights Project won the first civil jury verdict in a human trafficking case litigated under the California Trafficking Victims Protection Act. The jury awarded $768,000 to the plaintiff, including $500,000 in punitive damages, claiming a spot in the Los Angeles Daily Journal’s list of top 10 “High Impact” verdicts in California. We believe in OPPORTUNITY ✨ Individuals with criminal records make up a significant portion of job seekers, comprising nearly half of the male labor pool. Despite apprehensions from employers, research indicates that those with conviction histories often become exemplary employees. Surprisingly, over 25 percent of individuals currently employed have previously been convicted. This compelling evidence underscores the fact that individuals with conviction records can and do thrive in the workforce. In #Colorado a federal judge tossed out a lawsuit brought by a former prison employee over #diversity training and anti-racism initiatives. 👉🏾 Here's what happened: The ex-employee sued, claiming that the mandatory diversity training and anti-racism programs at their workplace violated their constitutional rights and amounted to compelled speech. BUT, the judge ruled in favor of the employer, stating that the programs were legitimate efforts to promote diversity and combat discrimination. So, what does this mean for DEI programs in the workplace? I think this decision sends a clear message that DEI programs are not only beneficial but also legally permissible. What do you think? https://lnkd.in/gYRhpYEF #ohio #law #employmentlaw #workersrights #ohiolaw #ohiolawyer #dei #inclusionatwork #deitraining
