🛠️💡 What does a digital transformation advocate do to unwind over the weekend? If you guessed ‘taking apart tech gadgets,’ you’re spot on! Pictured here in my element - safety goggles on, gloves secured - performing surgery on a MacBook battery. This isn’t just a hobby; it’s a testament to the joy of being hands-on with the technology we often discuss from a theoretical standpoint. 🔋 An amusing incident at work recently brought this passion into perspective. After sharing with a coworker at Siemens Energy that my work laptop was overheating, despite my meticulous yearly fan cleaning, they were baffled. “Yearly fan cleaning procedure?!” Their astonishment was a light-hearted reminder of the diversity in our engagements with technology. 💜 But it’s not just about the laughs or the personal quirks. Recently, the European Union made a monumental leap forward for tech enthusiasts like myself with the advancement of the “right to repair” directive. Coming into agreement in February 2024, this directive is a victory for consumers and the environment alike, ensuring access to spare parts, repair instructions, and diagnostic tools for a range of products, from smartphones to household appliances. 🇪🇺 As someone who has breathed new life into countless computers, iPhones, and even washing machines, the significance of this development cannot be overstated. It aligns with my belief in the importance of recycling, repairing, and optimizing technology - not just for personal satisfaction, but as a commitment to sustainability. 🌱 This new EU directive is more than policy; it’s a validation of the time spent tinkering, troubleshooting, and teaching others the value of repair. It encourages a culture where repair is recognized not only as a right but as a responsible choice for our planet. 🌍 As we navigate our digital lives, let’s remember the power of repair. It’s a chance to engage deeply with our devices, understand their workings, and contribute to a more sustainable world. I’d love to hear your repair stories or thoughts on the “right to repair” movement - or just drop a 🤓. Let’s inspire each other to take our tech enthusiasm to new, responsible heights. 🚀 #TechEnthusiast #RightToRepair #SustainableTech #NerdyAndProud #TeamPurple

Despite advancements in cell phone technology like Bluetooth and "do not disturb" mode, distracted driving remains a significant issue on U.S. roads, claiming thousands of lives annually. The Travelers Risk Index highlights a rise in distracted driving behaviors since 2020, with concerns echoed by business leaders, especially in the trucking industry. While policies exist, their enforcement varies, emphasizing the need for consistent implementation. Experts stress that hands-free technology doesn't eliminate cognitive distraction, urging stricter policies and technological solutions like NoCell Technologies to mitigate distractions. However, challenges persist in convincing companies of the value of such investments and overcoming drivers' concerns about privacy and intrusiveness.

Dive into the water footprint of your devices: Crafting just 1 circuit board consumes a surprising 4,165 liters and assembling 1 computer demands a staggering 190,000 liters. These figures shed light on the significant water impact of our digital gadgets. To put it in perspective, the water used in manufacturing these components unveils the hidden environmental cost of our tech gadgets. Extending the lifespan of your devices is a simple yet impactful way to adopt sustainable practices and mitigate this environmental impact. Consider this: for a laptop with a five-year life, over 100 liters of water are used daily for manufacturing, emphasizing the water intensity of these devices. When you’ve got a manufacturing process that is highly energy and resource-intensive, it is essential to use that product for as long as possible. As a water treatment company, we advocate for sustainable practices to address this impact. Consider extending the lifespan of your devices, recycling electronic waste, and supporting eco-friendly manufacturing processes. Together, we can reduce the water footprint of technology and pave the way for a more sustainable future. #water #sustainability #environment #electronics

Improvements in workplace safety over the past 30 years have avoided countless injuries and saved many lives. But many workplaces are still using that same equipment from 30 years ago. These machines were designed with limited guarding and frequently posed entanglement hazards. Changeover parts were heavy and awkward and musculoskeletal injuries were commonplace. Thankfully, there has been good progress in rectifying these challenges and on Thursday 29th Feb, Industry Partners Australia convened a Working Group on this very topic at Century Yuasa Batteries. Many thanks to Matthieu Anquetil and John McLean for hosting. The cross-functional team discussed various ways to address any literal and systemic gaps, drawing from the expertise in the room. To address the inherent manual handling risks with older equipment, Andrew McColl from Preventure demonstrated their solution to functional assessment using wearable technology. This will be a game-changer. Many thanks to all the hosts and participants. #health #safety #guarding #manualhandling
