You know, we actually don't get to talk to our members often enough, so it's really good to do so when the opportunity arises. Ken Carson, from Continuum contacted us last week to discuss the business accounts and analysis we hold on the system. Ken has used the Effective Management of Cash as part of his Financial Planning Process since 2016, and says: "It is such a great ice breaker to get clients talking about their finances, and when I show them what they could be achieving it makes my overall job so much easier" Following up on his business enquiry, he presented a cash management solution to his business client which generated additional interest payments of over £4,300 per annum. The client also requested some quotes on life assurance to help with business continuity, the premium for which came out at around £400 per month - so quite a chunky premium. But effectively, the chunky premium life assurance will have a net cost of around £50 per month because the additional interest from the cash compensates for the rest. Great result Ken Carson. Property Managers: Trust account or one account per property? We recently discussed this key decision with a new property management business and agreed there are pros and cons to each. Separate Accounts: Cleaner and more transparent, especially during audits. It helps avoid commingling funds, particularly for properties with cash flow issues. Some lenders even require it. However, it can be overwhelming for smaller companies due to the number of accounts to manage and reconcile. Single Trust Account: Easier to manage with fewer bank reconciliations. A strong property management system can still provide transparency, but investigating specific transactions in question may be harder.
