At MINISTRY we’re dedicated to strengthening ties with our community. Our team actively engages with the communities we design for, helping us design better solutions and ensure we meet their needs. Recently, some of our amazing team members had the opportunity to volunteer at Auckland City Mission - Te Tāpui Atawhai where they packed 55 food boxes! With food prices climbing, it’s important to acknowledge that 1 in 5 people in New Zealand struggle to afford and access the food they need. The Auckland City Mission is dedicated to closing this gap and achieving zero hunger in Aotearoa by providing thousands with nutritious food parcels each year. By joining forces with them, we can all contribute to this important mission!

On the 16th of October, also known as World Food Day Oribi proudly joined #FoodAgencyCapeTown (FACT) for the Food Walk to Parliament, supporting their Urban Food Futures (UFF) campaign. Together with FACT, we stand in solidarity with the network of community kitchens across the Cape Flats, advocating for food security, the right to food, and urgent action to address the intersecting challenges of hunger, unemployment, and gender-based violence. Together with FACT we believe that food is a right, not a commodity. For South Africa’s democracy to truly flourish, it is essential that food insecurity be placed at the forefront of the government's agenda and that key stakeholders partner with community kitchens to ensure sustainability and social support for those most in need. Oribi stands with FACT in their call for state intervention and community collaboration to achieve lasting change. What a whirlwind week at the #UNGA!!! I represented ACF Canada with my colleague Dr. Charles Owubah CEO of Action Against Hunger | ACF-USA. I attended many sessions including the #goalkeepers event that focused on the need for increased investment and innovation to address global food insecurity and malnutrition. I also had the chance to reconnect with old and dear friends and meet new ones, all with the hope of advancing global food security. Something that really stuck with me was a conversation with a cab driver in New York city. In his opinion, #UNGA wasn’t about solving problems, but about overpriced hotels and traffic jams in New York. I know he’s not alone in feeling this way. Year after year, decision makers from across the globe gather to discuss critical issues. Many rush around in a frenzy from one side event to the next. But for many, it still feels like the conversations don’t lead to any real change. The challenge? How do we move beyond conversations that seem to be a repetition of the same themes and ensure they lead to tangible, lasting impact for those outside these rooms? For me, the discussions at #UNGA gave me different perspectives on how we can create more sustainable and inclusive food systems, ensuring that investments not only reach those in need but also empower communities to be active participants in shaping their own futures. It also highlighted the importance of connecting high-level policy with the realities on the ground, making sure that the changes we advocate for are practical, equitable, and impactful for those who are most vulnerable. Let’s take on that challenge and ensure that our conversations during #UNGA move into much needed action.

A step in the right direction. I have always argued that Kenya had sunk to a level where if one was dying of thirst on the road and didnt have money to buy bottled water, you would literally die (if good samaritans dont offer to buy you water). Capitalism is good in some things but in others, socialism shouldnt be lost. Obviously someone or some people have been paying attention. Whereas this is a step in the right direction, the long term solution is to make tap water safe to drink so that water can be available in all places and not just restaurants. https://lnkd.in/dgVcV4pf

The "My Food, My Culture, My Future" campaign is a six-month initiative by Slow Food Kenya aimed at celebrating and preserving the rich Kenyan food culture. A combination of cultural shifts, economic factors, lifestyle changes, and inadequate awareness contributes to the decline in the consumption and production of indigenous foods in Kenya. To reverse this trend, concerted efforts are needed to celebrate and preserve the rich food heritage of the country while emphasizing the nutritional and environmental benefits of local ingredients...https://lnkd.in/eFCeQPcY

🚨 Make a Difference Today! 🚨 Right now, a container of Australian-made food products 🌏—valued at $200,000 AUD—is blocked in the port of Antwerp, destined for destruction. These items meet Australia's world-renowned high food safety standards and could provide comfort and hope to vulnerable communities in Ukraine 🇺🇦. After over 1,000 days of war, families and children are bracing for another harsh winter ❄. Instead of wasting perfectly good food, we’re pushing to redirect this container to Ukraine, spreading relief and even a little cheer this Christmas 🎄. 📢 What we need from you: 💬 Spread the word: Like, share, and comment to raise awareness. 🔗 Help us find decision-makers: Customs, FAVV, and those who can cut through the red tape! 🤝 Together, we can turn red tape into a lifeline for those who need it most. 💛 Let’s choose aid over waste. Let’s choose compassion over bureaucracy. #AidNotWaste #DonateNotDestroy #UkraineAid #CompassionInAction #PortOfAntwerp #WarOnWaste #HumanityFirst cc FAVV-AFSCA Promote Ukraine

Today 22 March 2024 is #WorldWaterDay. The United Nations have launched this edition under the slogan “water for peace”. Water is crucial for nature and the society. #Potatoes can also contribute to an efficient water usage and peace. They are by definition very water efficient compared to other staple food such as rice. And also the presence of locally grown food contributes to peace, as such water and potatoes can contribute to welfare and well being of communities in the world ! https://lnkd.in/e4x62ijk

🌱 Last week, Second Harvest’s 2024 Annual General Meeting brought together our incredible community of supporters, partners, donors and volunteers at our warehouse in Etobicoke. It was a moment to celebrate the hard work, dedication and passion that drive our mission to reduce food waste and combat food insecurity across Canada. 🌎💚 Over the past year, we not only met — but surpassed — the ambitious targets of our 3-year strategic plan. With your support, the Second Harvest team rescued and redistributed 87.1 million pounds of surplus food — far exceeding our original goal of 72 million pounds by 2025. That’s not just food saved from landfills — it’s nutritious, perishable food delivered to communities in need from coast to coast to coast. Our reach has expanded to support an estimated 6.5 million people in Canada. This achievement is a powerful testament to the strength of collaboration in the fight against hunger and food waste. Want to learn more? Explore our latest Annual Report below to see how, together, we’re making a sustainable difference. https://lnkd.in/geJ6UCtG
