Relationships are a beautiful part of our life journey, whether it is those with family, romantic relationships, or friendships; such bonds bring us happiness, fulfilment, and support. However, at times, these same relationships may also present challenges or create difficulties like misunderstanding, miscommunications, eventual breakups, and loneliness. This in turn causes us to feel sad, stressed, fatigued, low on hope and more. These difficult times require mutual patience, empathy, and effective communication. Considering the above, a first step in overcoming the issues is to recognize and accept that there is an issue between parties. “I and you are not the problem; the problem is the problem.” After recognizing the presence of an external hurdle instead of blaming one another, we must then try to explore and understand its source. So, we can work together towards it. Relationship issues arise due to many things such as having a negative thought patterns, miscommunications, having conflict on something, etc. In this piece, we will explore some relationship issues and psychotherapeutic techniques to navigate these issues with grace and understanding. 1. Identifying negative thought patterns Having negative thoughts may lead to misunderstanding which in turn could have a detrimental impact on one’s life as well as the relationship shared with our partners, friends, and family members. Hence, it is very crucial to navigate our negative thought patterns. We can begin doing this by maintaining a thought journal and recording all thoughts and emotions. In this way, we will be able to identify any patterns or recurring themes. Thus, exploring and identifying the way we think is the first step towards healing post which, we can restructure these thoughts by seeking evidence for and against the thoughts and/or trying to find out any alternate explanations for it. By doing so, we can develop a more balanced and realistic perspective on our relationship issues. https://lnkd.in/dEex7Zf2

Life Lesson #74 - Many People Are Masters At Hiding Their Struggles One of the many things I love about my work is that I see people from all walks of life. Something that strikes me is how good many people are at hiding their struggles to the outside world. We should never assume that it's okay to make someones life tougher because we are having a bad time of it or we think they have it all. We have no idea what others are going through and how close to the edge they are. Some of my most amazing clients appear to be functioning perfectly normally to the outside world. They go to work, they do all the 'normal' things but they are also dealing with a great deal. So often trauma is never addressed and, for some, that could have comprised years of horrendous experiences. For others, it is something they are currently going through. When you look at someone who might appear to have their life together, know that at some point (and that time could be now) they have struggled and suffered. If you have any questions, please get in touch. ann@hypnotherapy.gg or hypnotherapy@suremail.gg www.hypnotherapy.gg Ann Bowditch is a member and trainer of the General Hypnotherapy Register & General Hypnotherapy Standards Council. Life Lesson #89 - In A Heavily Populated World, Loneliness Is Very Real When we experience trauma, in that moment, we feel very isolated. This emotion might be overridden by fear (or another emotion) because we have to deal with the event at hand. Some people experience trauma after trauma during parts of their life. For example, anyone living in a highly dysfunctional family where there is abuse or someone in a relationship which is abusive or controlling. For these people, that feeling of loneliness is something they carry with them because it is held with the trauma. On the outside they can appear to be absolutely fine, functioning perfectly well but inside there is a lot more going on. Those who experience loneliness, even when they are with others, might have an underlying belief that others won't be there for them and they have to carry their burdens alone. That feeling can become someone's "norm" and carry with it a sense of disconnection from others. If you have any questions, please get in touch. ann@hypnotherapy.gg or hypnotherapy@suremail.gg www.hypnotherapy.gg Ann Bowditch is a member and trainer of the General Hypnotherapy Register & General Hypnotherapy Standards Council. Life Lesson #72 - You Are Not Responsible For Any Other Adult Do you ever feel obligated to ensure others are happy at the expense of your own contentment or well-being? Sometimes we place too much guilt on ourselves if we take action that suits us but perhaps doesn't work for others. Are you the person who always puts themselves out for others who wouldn't return that generosity? Does that leave you feeling frustrated or cause you to believe that you are less important than others? This happens more often than you might realise. I often explain to my clients that once we are adults (with very few exceptions), we have to take responsibility for ourselves. This means we might need to face challenging situations and there might be times when our decisions do not suit others. A lifetime spent putting others first causes disharmony, which will take its toll. Looking after yourself is self preservation (not selfishness). It's essential to your own well-being. Of course, help people when it works for you but do not feel that other people's happiness is down to you. It's not and if they try to make you feel it is then they are not taking responsibility for themselves. If you have any questions, please get in touch. ann@hypnotherapy.gg or hypnotherapy@suremail.gg www.hypnotherapy.gg Ann Bowditch is a member and trainer of the General Hypnotherapy Register & General Hypnotherapy Standards Council. Life Lesson #65 - Make Peace With Your Past We all have a life story. We can have difficulties later in life if our past has not been addressed. Emotions have often been suppressed. This usually begins in childhood because there is no place for those emotions. This suppressing then becomes completely natural. However, the cracks will start to appear later in life if we have not addressed the problematic events of our past. There are many ways to make peace with your past. If you are holding yourself to account for something you did, you should recognise what that event has taught you and how it has made you a better person. Bear in mind that when you were younger, you wouldn't have had the maturity and understanding you now have. You might have not understood the impact that your actions have on other people. Apologise if that is possible and you feel you would like to. A late apology is often better than no apology. Be kind to yourself. Accept your actions but acknowledge that you have learned and changed. If events holding you back are related to how you have been treated, those events will be impacting you in so many ways. They might cause you to have self-worth, self-esteem and confidence issues. You might be self-sabotating or not fulfilling your potential. The best way to live in the moment and have a positive future is to make peace with the past. Life Lesson #67 - Shame & Guilt Lower Your Vibration Of all the 'negative' feelings, shame and guilt carry the lowest energy. Low energy can impact your overall well-being. From my time as a therapist, I have witnessed how destructive it can be to live with these feelings. So often, they are over-used emotions. Some people carry these feelings for decades, much to their own destruction. Often they can cause self sabotaging behaviour and a lack of joy in life. If you are carrying these, they will have an impact on you. It's time to release yourself. Learn lessons, do good in life and let go of anything that holds such a low vibration. Bring the joy back. You were never meant to live with such feelings. If you have any questions, please get in touch. ann@hypnotherapy.gg or hypnotherapy@suremail.gg www.hypnotherapy.gg Ann Bowditch is a member and trainer of the General Hypnotherapy Register & General Hypnotherapy Standards Council.
