The two takeaways from the #Houthi attack on Israel and the #IAF's response >>>> #1 We have to come to grips with our current moment in technological development: within every industry, there is a 'cat and mouse' dynamic of defenders honing their defensive tools, and the attackers figuring out how to circumvent them. This has been the pattern for a long time and every defender knew deep down his defenses wouldn't last forever. However, it was assumed that a sizable investment in defense, a particularly clever machine, or some other witty innovation would at least buy you some time. We are at the point of such rapid technological development that even this can no longer be taken for granted. The amount of time between the defender deploying their defense and the attacker figuring out how to get around it has dwindled drastically--and may soon be virtually non-existent. #Israel has the best multi-layered air defenses in the world. As we saw four months ago during #Iran's ballistic missile strike, they do what they were designed to do with incredible precision. And yet, a band of Yemeni radicals armed with imported technology found a way around it. #2 This leads us to the second point: the days of #StaticDefense are over. deploying effective protection means deploying #proactive tactics: active recon, rolling perimeter checks, these are the ideas all security professionals need to be using. While defending a national territory may be more than what most security executives are dealing with, the principle is the same: To adequately defend an asset, the static model needs to be discarded. Worth noting is that a similar lesson can be gleaned from the recent #assassinationattempt on former president #Trump. The dozen Secret Service agents standing on stage with the man weren't able to do what a single loitering drone scanning the area would have been able to. Offense is not the best defense. It's the only defense.
