Here's why this is an especially critical event and why people need to stay frosty. MacDill Air Force Base: A Critical Hub in the Face of Hurricane Preparedness and Response As Hurricane Milton approaches, the role of MacDill Air Force Base (AFB) in Tampa, Florida, becomes more crucial than ever. Positioned along the Gulf Coast, MacDill AFB not only serves as a strategic military installation but also plays a vital role in emergency preparedness and disaster response efforts across the region. The base is home to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), making it an indispensable asset to both national defense and humanitarian operations. During hurricanes, MacDill coordinates with local authorities, the National Guard, and FEMA to ensure rapid deployment of resources, evacuation planning, and aid for affected communities. Given the unpredictability of storms, MacDill AFB's strategic capabilities, including airlift operations and command and control functions, help protect not only military personnel but also provide critical support to civilian efforts in the path of danger. As we brace for the impact of this hurricane, the readiness and resilience of our armed forces, emergency personnel, and local communities are more important than ever. #MacDillAFB #HurricanePreparedness #DisasterResponse #CENTCOM #SOCOM #TampaBay #EmergencyManagement Who names a Hurricane "Milton"? Its bad enough being a devastating storm but you have to have a goofy name as well?

Through U.S. Northern Command's Joint Task Force Civil Support, over 1,400 active-duty troops are clearing routes and transporting supplies to remote areas with DLA’s logistical backing. At the same time, DLA is providing millions of meals, over 285,000 gallons of fuel, and essential commodities like protective equipment and water directly to FEMA for those affected by the storm and first responders. DLA Disposition Services has contributed nearly $430,000 worth of gear, including generators, tents and motorized carts. As we continue to support the recovery from Hurricane Helene, our teams are already gearing up for Hurricane Milton’s potential impact.
