Unrealistic Timelines – Balancing Ambition with Reality. Overachieving &/or overpromising is a damaging trait in any business. I’ve been guilty of agreeing to timelines that, in hindsight, were overly ambitious. I once led a project where we worked around the clock, only to realize we couldn’t deliver a quality product on time. Missing the deadline hurt our relationship with the client. What I’ve learned: Prioritize realistic planning over ambitious promises. Involving the entire team in the estimation process ensures timelines are grounded in reality. I also build buffer periods for unexpected delays and maintain transparency with clients. How do you ensure your project timelines are realistic? #ProjectManagement #SDLC #Timelines #Planning #ClientRelations

Let's delve deeper into Scope Creep... Scope Creep often starts innocently enough. It might begin with a small addition or favour requested by the client, which seems manageable at first. Without clear boundaries and proper management, these requests can snowball, expanding beyond the original project scope. The client, unintentionally, may trigger scope creep by seeking additional features or changes beyond the initial agreement. Continuously accommodating these requests poses unmitigated risks to the project's success. Each change sets off a chain reaction of issues, impacting timelines, budgets, and, ultimately, project outcomes. #scopecreep #projectmanagement #projectsuccess #scopeschedulebudgetlimited #SSBL

I used to manage IT projects. Badly. 😳 It took me 5 years to get one right. It wasn't perfect. But I learned what good looked like. Then I stopped managing and started overseeing. I did this badly too at the start and we lost business due to poor delivery. 🤦♂️ So I took my learnings and implemented a very simple delivery governance model. There were some immediate benefits: 🔍 Enhanced Visibility - weekly updates meant we could foresee problems and get in front of them 🖍️ Improved Accountability - we assigned and tracked actions to ensure small issues didn't become big ones 🙌 Knowledge Sharing - delivery leads were able to support and learn from each other. But the biggest one - happier clients 🥳 Things will always go wrong on a project. But if you don't know about it you can't do anything about it. Don't have anything in place? You're not alone. And it's easy to change. Here is my formula for getting on top of project delivery - https://buff.ly/3wDq7q2 Don't have time to implement it? Get in touch - I'd love to help!

Why did the project manager cross the road? 🛣 To get to the "other side" of the project where the requirements are clear, the budget is unlimited, and the deadlines are flexible. But then he realised... it was just a mirage created by the stakeholders! 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 #funnypost #joke #takeiteasy #projectmanagement #programmanagement #lifeontheroad #projectmanagers #stakeholdermanagement #stakeholders

The dialogue between a Town Planner and Project Manager: TP: We need to develop a plan with various options an determine cost-benefit analysis for each. PM: I think should build something small on the proposed site and get people using it, then iterate based on feedback TP: we must get consultants to tell us what structures to build. PM: We should build something and get it used, and iterate based on both the beneficiary and its clients. Love what I do. #productdevelopment #businesspark

As an IT Delivery Manager, it's essential to recognize that project risk is highest at the start. Projects move through phases like initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closing, but risks peak at the beginning for several reasons. A project that kicks off, no matter how imperfectly it unfolds, will at least yield some results. However, those that fail to start provide no outcome at all. The primary risk drivers include a lack of executive sponsorship and interest. Additionally, ambitious promises made by sales teams to meet targets often exceed what’s realistic, creating a gap that prevents the project from even getting off the ground. #projectmanagment #projectrisks #ITdelivery #ServiceDeliveryManagement
