Introducing the third instalment of our “Meet the Team” series! Today, we’re highlighting Josh Gleadell, our Rail Technical Manager. We’ve asked him a series of questions to learn more about his role and contributions to Rosehill. Stay tuned for more as we continue to celebrate the talented individuals on our team and their positive impact on our community and industry! 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲: Josh Gleadell 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲: Rail Technical Manager 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹: I worked for two summers on the shop floor when I was at school and have been full-time for the last six years. Working in different roles including Highways production, Rail production planning and technical management. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗼𝗳? In my four years managing the technical department, there are too many to count, but one that stands out is the new Taff’s Well Metro Depot in Wales. It was great to be involved with every stage of the project, from designing the rail crossing panels for an extremely tight radius to installation over a rainy weekend. 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗯𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀? I spend a lot of my free time with my two-year-old son. He really enjoys watching aeroplanes, so he comes to the airport to watch me off when I travel for work. I also enjoy training in Jiu-Jitsu, where I have attained a blue belt. 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿? Work hard and be nice to all people. You’ll be amazed how far you can go with this simple motto. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝘆? A difficult choice, but it would have to be our Systems Manager, Cath Emmett. I really enjoy developing new systems of work and automating repetitive tasks, so I would like to see what can be done with dedicated hours and resources to this project. Only for a day, though!

Maintenance is Essential for Smooth Operations 🔧 Regular maintenance is super important! Here's why: if you don't set aside time to take care of your equipment, it will break down at the worst possible moment. ⏰ I love this saying: "I want to control when the asset goes down. I don't want the asset dictating when it goes down." It reminds me that it's better to fix things before they become a problem. 👍 At my previous jobs with EastWest Transport, Mapai Transport and Logistics, Agility, and Guard Dog Security Services Limited, making sure everything was well-maintained was a big part of my work. 🚛 By doing regular check-ups, we kept everything running smoothly and avoided unexpected breakdowns. 🔍 Remember, taking care of your equipment means it will take care of you! Regular upkeep not only keeps things working well but also saves time and money in the long run. A well-maintained asset is a reliable asset. 💪✨

Live Safe, Work Safe: A Journey of Transformation and Commitment Four years ago, I stepped into a role that would unknowingly change not just my perspective but the very culture of Lehman-Roberts. Tasked with envisioning and strategizing a safety overhaul, I was skeptical. My hands-on approach and a recent memory of balancing on a tractor bucket with a chainsaw in hand made me question if I was the right person to champion safety. Yet, the importance of safety was undeniable, and I committed to making a difference. Fast forward to today, and the transformation is nothing short of remarkable. Our journey, fueled by the motto “Live Safe, Work Safe,” has reshaped our company into a beacon of safety excellence. Our partnership with Cat Safety Services and the invaluable guidance from Paul Kevin Ellison have been pivotal in this transformation. Our achievements are a testament to the power of vision, strategy, and relentless pursuit of improvement. The journey has taught us that safety is not a destination but a continuous path of growth and learning. I am immensely proud of what we’ve achieved and the culture we’ve built. Yet, I am reminded daily that our journey is never-ending. As a leader, I am indeed, the “safety guy,” and this role is one I embrace with honor and responsibility. To our team at Lehman-Roberts Company and Memphis Stone & Gravel Company, our partners, and everyone who walks this journey with us: thank you. Your dedication, resilience, and commitment to safety are what make our progress possible. Together, we are building safer workplaces and fostering communities where safety is a way of life. As we continue to evolve and improve, I am excited for what the future holds. Our journey is a living testament to what we can achieve when we commit to a common goal and objective. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries, challenging ourselves, and leading by example. Because at Lehman-Roberts, safety is our legacy and our promise for a better tomorrow. #LehmanRoberts #LiveSafeWorkSafe #ContinuousImprovement #SafetyCulture https://lnkd.in/dN44RXWz

"I recall an operation day when my senior team member and I were on shift, performing monitoring and technical duties in the pit (from Tebere down to the viewpoint). After completing our tasks, we decided to exit through the goaline to the workshop side (HME). However, upon reaching the central haul route, we encountered a digger diverting traffic, with only one spotter directing vehicles. We observed a potential hazard: no one was present to direct oncoming vehicles on the opposite side of the digger. We made a U-turn to exit through the tailings dam route back to the office. Reflecting on the incident, we realized there could have been a miscommunication. I suggested that my senior staff contact the management in charge to report the unseen danger. He did so, and we continued to discuss the issue. Two days later, on our last day shift, the manager visited our office to applaud and appreciate our intervention. This experience highlighted the importance of being not only our own keepers but also others' keepers when it comes to safety-first initiatives. It's crucial that we maintain a safety-enabling environment by being proactive rather than reactive to safety culture."
