We need more initiatives like this- mental health first aid training, so we can recognize and help when someone is in crisis. We are not all mental health professionals, but perhaps we can help a friend, colleague, or loved one when needed. What a great way to recognize Mental Health Awareness Week. #CompassionConnects #MentalHealthFirstAid #MentalHealthWeek

MHFA - Mental Health First Aid Next online training starts on Thursday - February 6th - 6pm Register now! https://lnkd.in/eRmRqdg3 Most people are familiar with the idea of physical first aid courses that teach the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies and provide a first aid response across a range of different situations. Mental Health First Aid training adopts a similar approach. Using a practical, skills-based action plan, participants learn the skills to recognise and respond to someone experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves. Individuals who complete Mental Health First Aid training are equipped with the skills to listen, connect, and offer support when it matters most. MHFAiders play a vital role in reducing stigma and promoting pathways to support for those experiencing mental health problems in our workplaces, communities, schools, and tertiary institutions. 📣 FINAL SPACES LEFT- Older Person's Mental Health First Aid Training When we see a broken bone, it can be quite obvious- because we can see the PHYSICAL injury. But what if the illness isn't visible to the naked eye? What if it relates to the person's mental health? We, or the person themselves might be able to identify that something is 'not right' but do we know what to do next? How do we offer initial support? Where do we go for more specialist help? How do we keep the person safe? It has never been more important to have knowledge, skill and confidence to support people with their mental health - especially the older people we care for in health, aged and community care services. We don't expect our teams to know how to administer general first aid without training, so we shouldn't expect people to be confident and skilled to provide mental health first aid without the training either. Our 2 day, in person Older Person Mental Health First Aid workshop, facilitated by Vanja Simic on June 6-7 in Melbourne has LIMITED SPACES left. Participants will become accredited Mental health First Aiders (valid for 3 years), with the program also approved by Suicide Prevention Australia. This program is perfect for clinicians and carers supporting older people in health, aged care, community or disability settings.
