Legislation has been proposed to improve military medical care in the Indo-Pacific. The bill would allow all United States Department of Defense personnel in the region to access foreign medical facilities during peacetime and wartime operations. This would address staffing shortages and limited specialty services at some military hospitals, like the Naval Hospital Okinawa, Japan. The program would be modeled after a similar initiative in South Korea, where the U.S. has agreements with over 40 hospitals to provide quality care for troops. The proposed bill also mandates a medical readiness strategy for the Indo-Pacific to improve access and quality of care for service members, families, and DoD civilians overseas. According to sponsor Sen. Tammy Duckworth, this is critical to address challenges that harm military readiness. Let's support our troops and ensure they have access to the best possible medical care. #MilitaryHealth #OverseasCare #IndoPacific #NationalDefense #MilitaryReadiness

GLOBAL HEALTH ENGAGEMENTS ENHANCE READINESS Fantastic opportunity to partner with Africa to foster medical training. US Military medical professionals from the U.S. joint force and 17 African nations recently attended a concept development event hosted by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa in Vicenza, Italy. This event was to develop global health engagements and medical readiness exercises (MEDREX) for the future. A MEDREX is an event planned by the U.S. Army task force that enables military health professionals from the U.S. and partner forces to exchange medical practices, procedures, and techniques that will enhance treatment capabilities. In addition to building capabilities, the goal is to build lasting relationships between participants. The U.S. Army task force plans to conduct eight MEDREX events throughout fiscal year 2025. Host nations include Angola, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Chad, Ghana, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zambia. https://lnkd.in/gHJAYeMX Military Health System Defense Health Agency AMSUS - The Society of Federal Health Professionals #readiness #GHE #globalpartnerships #medrex #meded #militarymedicine

U.S. Air Force Reserve members have been integral to the Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team, or LAMAT, a U.S. Air Force medical assistance mission that complements care for patients across medical specialties in island nations in the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility. Air Force Reserve members traveled to Suriname, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and St. Kitts and Nevis starting in February, and over the span of eight weeks encountered diverse experiences and opportunities to increase readiness and support communities. Air Force-led global health engagement, or GHE, activities are increasingly utilizing Total Force Integration, including active-duty and reserve component personnel and units. The Air Force Reserve’s support of LAMAT offers a powerful opportunity for practicing expeditionary medical skills and force retention. The overall mission enhanced U.S. Air Force and partner nation medical capabilities with more than 6,000 procedures performed on more than 3,500 patients. Every year, Air Force Reserve members have two weeks of annual training focused on maintaining military medical readiness. GHE activities offer a unique opportunity for reserve medical Airmen enabling them to operate in new and austere environments, which strengthens their readiness for a wide range of potential future operations. Read more extensive details about how Air Force reservists supported the medical assistance mission and strengthened medical readiness during LAMAT 2024 here: https://lnkd.in/e9SrQvqA

https://lnkd.in/eupMatdh When I served (albeit, not in combat), it was encouraging and comforting to think that we were the greatest military on earth. The best training, amazing weapons systems, and great combat support services back-stopping this. With a daughter currently serving in the medical corps, this article is a sobbering reminder that we need to keep the right focus and balance for our current and future military force. This theme also resonates with me in my current line of work to remind me of the importance of balancing cost and benefit when I consider infrastructure operations ootimization - perfecting and protecting the art of Availability, Security, Automation... starting with top talent people!

A lot of people working hard to expand U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Military Health System collaboration to better support our Warfighters, Veterans, and their families. These programs for #transitioningservicemembers are really interesting to me. ***inTransition The inTransition program is a free, confidential program that offers specialized coaching and assistance for active duty service members, National Guard members, reservists, veterans and retirees who need access to mental health care when: -Relocating to another assignment -Returning from deployment -Transitioning from active duty to reserve component or reserve component to active duty -Preparing to leave military service -Any other time they need a new mental health provider or need a provider for the first time. ***The Recovery Coordination Program provides education employment initiatives. -The program connects transitioning service members to non-funded federal internships and the National Resource Directoryopens NRD.gov ***Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) The Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) is a joint DoD and VA disability evaluation process. Under this system, VA helps DoD determine if wounded, ill, or injured Service members are fit for continued Military service and provide disability benefits to Service members and Veterans, if appropriate. IDES allows VA and DoD to share information and to complete each agency’s respective process simultaneously, without the need for duplicative exams and ratings. #militaryhealth #veteranshealth #healthinnovation WarDocs- The Military Medicine Podcast
