Quantum technology may seem like science fiction. But researchers and tech companies are getting closer to making this powerful method of computing a reality. With significant hurdles ahead, will the costs be worth the benefit? Our Managing partner Karthee Madasamy shares his insights with The Daily Upside. “Once we deploy it, in terms of the benefits it's going to provide, I have no qualms about the ROI. It's not just a pure science project, let's put it that way. We don't have the fundamental technologies to be able to keep up with [our computation needs]. (Ref to David Deutsch's theory on the multiverse) It's an interesting notion, but let's hear the critics: • The calculation was designed to challenge classical computers. • Claims of quantum supremacy rely on Google's own benchmarks. • Most experts advise caution on sweeping interpretations based on these results. However, it's still exciting: While Willow may not prove the multiverse, it does represent a step change in computing power. Quantum Computing is going to be huge. Google claims to have made a breakthrough this week with Willow. It is well known that the ability of AI to grow will limited by current processing power. Quantum Computing is therefore the key to AI's full potential. Excerpt from Forbes "To put it in perspective, Willow's computational power is staggering. PsiQuantum is building the first full-tolerant quantum computer. Overall, the Nature article is well-rounded, balanced, and non-technical (which is hard to do). A few points are missed: 1. A researcher from the University of Science and Technology of China says that PsiQuantum has yet to prove that it has overcome technical challenges. Many, if not all, of these unnamed challenges have been proven to those who need to know. Thank you, Australia and the USA, for showcasing that fact! PsiQuantum is a critical technology—a fact that neither the company nor its investors take lightly. PsiQuantum does not need to prove to competitors that they are more advanced—those involved already know it to be true. 2. Publishing work in the early years was vital for others to help underwrite the validity of the approach. Over time, PsiQuantum has matured to filing patents, and now its advancements are worthy of trade secret status. Sorry to those who are still publishing papers, but one day, you, too, will not want to give the milk away for free! 3. "'... I would sleep better' with the incremental approach"—bold ideas are not incremental; they are step changes. Look at SpaceX, Nvidia, and Telsa. They are successful because they do not sleep, work hard, and are bold. Category leaders and their venture capitalists do not want incremental improvements or science projects. Tinkers enjoy the slow path to irrelevance. Playground has supported PsiQuantum since its inception.
