We are encouraged to see the Competition Bureau investigating US-based VIAD’s market domination in Banff and Jasper. It’s our hope that this inquiry will uncover whether bundling practices have contributed to an unfair monopoly.    Alongside other ski hill operators, Adam and I are optimistic that the investigation could lead to asset divestment or regulatory changes, fostering a fairer, more competitive environment.    A more balanced market would benefit local businesses and enhance ecological integrity and the visitor experience, offering more choices and opportunities in Canada’s most iconic parks. This $6.4 billion project represents more than just steel and concrete; it’s a testament to international collaboration and engineering excellence. 🔹 Enhancing Connectivity: This new crossing will provide a vital link between Detroit, Michigan, and Windsor, Ontario—one of the busiest segments of the U.S.-Canada border. It promises to support economic growth, reduce congestion, and enhance the efficiency of trade and travel. 🔹 Engineering Challenges and Achievements: Working on a megaproject of this scale taught me about the complexities of large infrastructure endeavors, from managing stakeholder interests to implementing cutting-edge construction techniques. Projects like these reveal the dedication and collaboration required at every level. 🔹 Environmental and Community Considerations: Every decision was made with a focus on minimizing environmental impact and considering the needs of nearby communities. Witnessing the commitment to sustainable practices was both inspiring and motivating. A big step forward for the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which connects nations. The top of the main frame has been finished, which is a big step forward for the impressive Gordie Howe International Bridge project. The $4.7 billion cable-stayed bridge will make it much easier for cars to travel between Detroit, Michigan, and Windsor, Ontario. In Alaska, a group of Tribes with ancestral homelands along BC’s transboundary rivers are seeking to be consulted on multiple risky and under-regulated gold mines that threaten the rivers, fish and the people in the region and their ways of life. In Washington, the Lummi Nation is asserting their transboundary rights to consult on a massive port expansion of the BC Roberts Bank Terminal that would harm Chinook salmon, Southern Resident orca whales and the Lummi people. According to the Supreme Court of Canada’s 2021 decision in R. v. Desautel, Indigenous peoples in the U.S. whose ancestral lands were taken and divided by the U.S.-Canada border may assert rights as aboriginal peoples of Canada and engage in meaningful government-to-government consultation on projects affecting them. However, BC’s Environmental Assessment Office recently notified the 15 member Tribes of the Southeast Alaska Indigenous Transboundary Commission (SEITC) and the Lummi Nation that their rights will be “distinct” and “differentiated” from those of First Nations in BC. Both SEITC and Lummi have asked Canada for recognition as a Participating Indigenous Nation to protect aboriginal and treaty rights and natural resources from reckless development projects. #rbt2 #eskaycreek #britishcolumbia #humanrights #undrip #dripa
