🌊 How Can Machine Learning Solve Ocean Oxygen Loss? Climate change is reshaping our oceans, but the decline in oxygen levels—critical for marine life—is a challenge that requires innovative solutions. Georgia Tech researchers tackle this head-on with machine-learning loss models, a groundbreaking approach to mapping decades of oceanic change. From analyzing historical ship data to leveraging Argo float technology, this research bridges crucial data gaps, offering insights into how warming waters impact marine ecosystems. Their findings show a 0.7% decline in ocean oxygen per decade since the 1970s, with profound implications for biodiversity, fisheries, and global climate systems. 💡 Key takeaway: Combining historical data with modern machine learning enhances accuracy and equips policymakers with actionable insights to address environmental challenges. What’s Next? Integrating cutting-edge algorithms and traditional observation methods represents a decisive step forward in environmental science. As the climate crisis deepens, approaches like these are essential for driving impactful, science-backed decisions. 🌟 Explore the full story: https://lnkd.in/di5rnYMX #MachineLearning #OceanConservation #ClimateChange #SustainableSolutions #MarineBiodiversity

Did everyone miss this big event in Earth observation? Planet recently launched its Planet Insights Platform. In my impression, it is by far the best software in the field of #EarthObservation (EO) and will shake up the EO market. But – at least in my bubble – hardly anyone seems to have heard about it yet. *** Some background: Earth Observation (EO) refers to the use of remote sensing technologies to monitor earth data such as changes in land and ecosystems, biodiversity, water bodies, and the atmosphere. This is key for evaluating and validating #sustainability data along supply chains, f.e. in connection with #CSDDD and #EUDR. Handling EO data is not trivial, which is why there are management tools that make it simpler, such as Nala Earth and The Landbanking Group's Landler. Much in the field is free or open source, such as the UNEP/GRID-Geneva or ENCORE. The Planet Insights Platform – at least that's my impression – puts all the puzzle pieces together and could make many of the existing applications obsolete.
