Exciting news! We are thrilled to announce that our film, 'Care & Loss,' is competing in this year's Charity Film Awards 🏆 The film aims to understand more about end-of-life experiences through an LGBTQ+ lens to inform care within hospices and other care settings. The film features people who were interviewed about their experiences of supporting a loved one who was dying, including partners and friends within the LGBTQ+ community in London. We would be incredibly grateful if you could support us by casting your vote for 'Care & Loss' here 🗳️ https://buff.ly/3ZM3DPg Thank you for your support! The film was commissioned by Community Hospice and produced by METRO Charity.

Back in 2017, we surveyed “reactive givers” – those who made a charitable contribution to a cause-based organization because they felt their beliefs were under threat due to unfolding political and social events. Often referred to as “rage donors” we learned that a host of emotions push these donors to action, including hope, empowerment, sadness, anger, and anxiety. Their generosity was directed to causes ranging from poverty and homelessness to LGBTQ+ rights, protecting the environment, and racial justice/inequality. Will the result of the recent election ignite another wave of reactive givers? Will the same triggers and emotions motivate their giving? Which causes will see the biggest surges in reactive giving this time? #reactivegiving #ragegiving #philanthropy #election #charitablegiving

A statement from NEOCH's Director of LGBTQ+ Navigation Services about HB 68: I am profoundly outraged by the court's ruling on House Bill 68. With over a decade of experience working with youth, I am acutely aware of the severe harm and fear this decision will inflict. Access to gender-affirming care is a critical aspect of well-being and stability for many folks, and legal restrictions on this essential care will only intensify the already overwhelming challenges faced by marginalized communities. Trans and non-binary youth already face significant obstacles, including disproportionately high rates of housing instability and homelessness. Limiting their access to gender-affirming care exacerbates these difficulties and jeopardizes their mental and emotional health. Ensuring that all individuals have access to supportive and affirming care is crucial for their well-being and autonomy. If you are determined to make a difference, consider donating to The Future is Queer Fund. https://lnkd.in/gpUU4uph

WHY IT MATTERS:
Thrilled that M&T Bank is supporting the Equality Community Center with $20,000 to further their mission and important work. We look forward to partnering with the ECC throughout the year and making a difference in our community! The Equality Community Center (ECC) in Portland is the first of its kind in Maine - a collaborative workplace for LGBTQ+ and allied social justice-seeking non-profit organizations while also serving as a community center for Maine’s LGBTQ+ community. My colleagues Mike Ross, Isaac Yeboah Yeboah, Katie Rooks of M&T Bank, and Wilmington Trust's Jerry Weidner of Wilmington Trust enjoyed a tour and presented a $20,000 donation to the ECC. “The funds from The M&T Charitable Foundation will support our efforts so we can continue to provide a space where everyone can be their authentic selves and thrive.” - Chris O’Connor, Executive Director, ECC Board

This holiday season is an opportunity to consider how philanthropy can address systemic disparities. The Equitable Giving Lab (EGL) provides data-driven insights to highlight where support is most needed. In 2021, nonprofits focused on women and girls received only 1.9% of total charitable donations, amounting to $10.2 billion. LGBTQ+ organizations faced similar funding gaps, receiving just 0.16% of overall giving, or $823 million. Through its Women & Girls Index and LGBTQ+ Index, EGL sheds light on these inequities and offers resources to guide giving decisions. How are you giving back this holiday season?
