Interstate 26 is South Carolina’s Main Street. I-26 connects South Carolinians with work and educational opportunities, supports the state’s economic activity, and welcomes guests who travel to the Palmetto State for work or play. From the foothills of the Upstate to the marshes of the Lowcountry, bridges serve as vital links along I-26, connecting stretches of roadway and providing an uninterrupted drive. In fact, there are 145 total bridges on I-26, crossing over roads, railroads, and bodies of water. Pictured are two I-26 bridges over US 29 in Spartanburg County that see an average of 53,900 vehicles per day. With a growing state population and traffic projected to continue increasing, our work to Fix I-26 will continue to be a priority for SCDOT – bridges and all.

Maryland currently has nearly $10B in state funds allocated for transportation priorities over the next six years. Given that almost 75% of these resources are generated by roadway users, is this allocation truly balanced? To meet all of Maryland’s transportation needs, including the expansion of rail transit, we need additional, self-sustaining revenue sources. Diversifying our funding approach is essential to ensure sustainable growth across all transportation sectors. That requires leadership actions and less curated messaging by Gov. The City of Bellevue, Washington’s Vision Zero program methodically moves from Road Safety Assessments (see: https://lnkd.in/gjrUvBxG) where we identify safety concerns and candidate solutions on our High Injury Network through to Safe Streets Corridor Studies (see: https://lnkd.in/ggFp7dHv) where we arrive at street designs that address the safety issues to then implementing proven safe countermeasures leveraging local, state, and federal funding. This step-by-step approach of linking planning with implementation is reflected in this week’s City Council action (see: https://lnkd.in/gQqnmw-3) accepting three grants totaling more than $2 million that will support the Transportation Department’s Vision Zero efforts to make Bellevue streets safer for all users, particularly people walking and rolling.

The City of Charlotte has transformed a former freight rail line into a people-focused trail and transit corridor – much like the original vision for the Atlanta Beltline. Charlotte leaders and community members say that it’s not just the trail, but it’s the transit that builds their communities, drives their economy, and makes the corridor accessible to everyone. Thanks to the Charlotte Area Transit System and Charlotte Center City Partners for working with us to tell your compelling story!

Governor Hochul, MTA leadership and local officials were at Garrison Station to highlight major accomplishments and investments for Metro-North riders. Some notable achievements this year include: 🛠️ Replacing part of the 130-year-old Park Avenue Viaduct ♿ ADA accessibility upgrades at Hartsdale, Scarsdale, and Purdy's stations 🌊 Resiliency improvements along the Hudson Line The next few years will bring more modernization to Metro-North, which means better commutes and a boost our regional economy.

By Larry Sandler With ridership running ahead of expectations on Amtrak’s new #Borealis, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is studying whether to add a second daily round trip between #Chicago, #Milwaukee and the #TwinCities. At the same time, the agency’s rail chief says a recently funded #infrastructure project will lead to an eighth daily round trip between Milwaukee and Chicago as soon as 2026. And a #Montana official is raising the possibility that a proposed new long-distance rail line could provide crucial federal funding for future passenger train service to #Madison and #EauClaire.
