Join us in celebrating International Biodiversity Day! 🌿🌏 At WSP, we strive for a Nature Positive Future where we preserve the natural environment and put it on the path to recovery, ensuring that the resources available to us today will be there for future generations. In 2023, we were proud to sign the Nature Positive Pledge co-developed by the UK Business & Biodiversity Forum, which commits businesses to working collaboratively to halt and reverse their impacts on nature. As part of our commitment, we are excited to release our first Nature Positive Report, exploring the impact of our projects on nature, our dedication to achieving positive environmental change, and reversing nature loss through strategic assessments and adherence to the requirements of the Nature Positive Pledge. Today, on World’s Indigenous Peoples’ Day, IUCN continues to stand in solidarity with #Indigenous peoples. This year, we look especially to those in voluntary isolation and initial contact. These communities have unique relationships with their natural environments, which are often under threat from external pressures. Respecting their rights is not merely a matter of ethical responsibility but a crucial component of global #conservation efforts and ensuring the wellbeing of people. Indigenous knowledge is a cornerstone of effective #nature conservation. Centuries of interaction with their surroundings have equipped Indigenous peoples with profound insights into #sustainable resource management, #ecosystem health, and #biodiversity. Their practices and worldviews offer innovative solutions and a holistic understanding of environmental stewardship, which is essential for addressing the pressing challenges of #climate change and habitat loss. IUCN calls for a strengthened partnership between the conservation community and Indigenous peoples worldwide, rooted in respect for their rights and the incorporation of their traditional knowledge into #global conservation strategies and policies. As we celebrate this International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, may we be inspired by the deep connections between these communities and the natural world. Let us join hands to build a future where our conservation efforts are grounded in respect, collaboration, and a shared vision.

Protecting biodiversity goes beyond policy and science—it’s about honoring the wisdom of Indigenous Peoples, whose stewardship has sustained ecosystems for generations. 🌿✨ Ceiça Pitaguary, Secretary of Indigenous, Environmental and Territorial Management, Government of Brazil, reminds us that to tackle the #biodiversity crisis, we must learn from Indigenous perspectives to create solutions that honor both people and planet. #ThinkLandscape

SUPPORTING LOCAL COMMUNITIES THROUGH CARBON CREDIT INITIATIVES We spearheads initiatives to support local communities through carbon credits. By partnering with indigenous groups, they implement sustainable land management practices, preserving vital ecosystems and biodiversity. Through carbon offset sales, they generate revenue, empowering locals economically while mitigating climate change effects. This approach not only fosters community resilience but also promotes cultural preservation and environmental conservation. Today, on International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we recognize the vital role Indigenous communities play in preserving our planet. 🌍 With 476 million Indigenous Peoples across 90 countries, they safeguard 80% of the world's biodiversity — demonstrating unparalleled stewardship of our ecosystems. At Browning Environmental Communications, we’re proud to support impactful initiatives that place Indigenous Peoples at the forefront of environmental conservation, including: 🌿 #ACT30: A ground-breaking collaboration between IUCN, the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity and Esri to safeguard biodiversity by bringing together #IndigenousPeoples, local communities, and governments. 🌿 Wake Forest University's Andrew Sabin Family Center for Environment and Sustainability research initiative with Centro de Innovación Científica Amazónica - CINCIA: This collaboration develops solutions to reforest and restore degraded areas in the Peruvian Amazon. Working directly with Indigenous peoples, CINCIA also aims to reduce human health threats from environmental mercury. This partnership serves as a model for large-scale reforestation, improved biodiversity conservation, and more sustainable small-scale mining and farming techniques throughout the Amazon. As we tackle the ongoing climate and environmental challenges, it’s crucial we amplify Indigenous voices, recognize their contributions, and support their participation in decision-making processes. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with organizations driving these efforts forward. #EnvironmentalCommunications
