We’re pleased to share a new impact report for the East Metro Main Street Economic Revitalization Program, which supported 42 Saint Paul nonprofits and businesses that faced immense challenges the past four years due to the pandemic, civil unrest and other obstacles. With support from F. R. Bigelow Foundation and other funding partners, the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development granted $3.7 million to nonprofits and $3.3 million to businesses in the Snelling-University-Rice Cultural District, the East Side community and along West Seventh Street in Saint Paul. 100% of the funded projects serve communities that have been historically under- and dis-invested by traditional funding, and 85% of the projects are owned or led by people of color. When we say we make data-driven investments that are informed by the needs of the community, this is what we mean: Rocket Community Fund's flagship Neighbor to Neighbor program hires residents as #volunteers who go door-to-door to provide their neighbors with resources and information to help them stay in their homes. It's also a fact-finding mission, where we learn about the issues most concerning to residents. In 2023, they launched Neighbor to Neighbor in #Atlanta. Based on those findings, we've begun investing in programs and partnerships to better support residents with critical housing resources. The City of Needles Achieves Remarkable Success Securing Over $4.7 Million The City of Needles has recently secured an impressive $4,791,850.72 in grant funding, a significant milestone that reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to growth, sustainability, and community well-being. Thanks to the tireless efforts of city administration and the expert guidance of California Consulting, several transformative grants have been awarded to support the city's future: 1. Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program: The City of Needles has been awarded $3,965,400.00 by the California Department of Parks and Recreation. This competitive program is focused on creating new parks and recreational opportunities in underserved communities. By leveraging philanthropic investments and innovative financing solutions — like the GoATL Affordable Housing Fund in Atlanta (Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta) or LA4LA in Los Angeles (California Community Foundation) — we can break down barriers to homeownership and create pathways to economic empowerment. "In this spirit, nonprofit San Diego Habitat for Humanity and private impact asset management firm Mission Driven Finance® announced the launch of a second Homebuilding Investment Fund. This is crucial for maintaining the integrity of our communities and ensuring that everyone has access to safe and affordable housing options. - The Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University's recommendation to collaborate and create funding sources is spot on. - Incorporating a mix of public and private funding can ensure the longevity and effectiveness of home repair programs. - It's time to shift the focus from short-term solutions to long-term sustainability in the housing sector. It's a win-win for both homeowners and the community. Let's keep pushing for innovative solutions and partnerships to address the housing repair needs that are vital for maintaining affordable homeownership options for all. The time for action is now, and together we can make a real difference in the lives of countless individuals and families.

As my second year as Executive Director comes to a close, I’ve taken time to reflect on this organization's incredible journey during the eight years I’ve been a part of it. This year, we reached a significant milestone: taking the first steps toward establishing our own static site shelter. This project will be a transformative venture for us in the years ahead, bringing stability and hope to so many. However, this progress has been accompanied by a sobering realization. Rising rent and the overall cost of living are driving more families back into instability—families we previously worked to help stabilize. It’s heartbreaking to see them priced out of affordable housing despite their best efforts to build secure lives. The road ahead will undoubtedly be more challenging than ever before. Yet, I remain hopeful. I believe in the power of community and our ability to come together to support one another. By fostering innovation and collaboration, we can develop creative solutions to what feels like an impossible problem. Let’s continue to work towards a future where every family has access to safe, affordable housing. Rocky Mountain Community Reinvestment Corporation has provided $6,377,621 in permanent financing for the new construction of East 72 Apartments in Midvale, Utah. This multifamily development supports the community by providing 89 units for households earning between 25% - 50% of the area median income (AMI). 40% of the units will be subsidized via a federal rent subsidy. 5 units will be set aside to serve those exiting homelessness, there will be 10 ADA units, 5 units set aside for disabled residents, and 5 units will be set aside to serve domestic violence survivors. Service providers for these set aside units include organizations with long standing relationships with Housing Connect that include The Road Home, YMCA, South Valley Services, and Utah Independent Living Center. We extend our deepest appreciation to Housing Opportunities, Inc., which operates as the nonprofit development entity through Housing Connect, the sponsor/developer of this project, in collaboration with Chelsea Investment Corporation, The Richman Group, Zions Bank, The Utah Housing Corporation, Olene Walker Housing Loan Fund, Salt Lake County, Redevelopment Agency, Housing Opportunities, Inc., American Rescue Plan Act, and energy rebates from Rocky Mountain Power and Dominion Energy.
