Media mix modeling (MMM) should ideally be both a source of answers and questions. 1) As a source of answers: MMM should provide your marketing team with insights into what's likely to happen in the future based on all the marketing data you have, including current spend patterns, performance data from various channels, and the results of past experiments. 2) As a source of questions: MMM should drive you to think about how you can improve your understanding of marketing performance. If the model shows uncertainty about a particular channel, it should suggest you run an experiment to validate your assumptions and gain more certainty. The most sophisticated organizations see MMM and experimentation as a whole unified system, not as two separate things.

There are endless analysis techniques out there. This one changed the game for me. (And no, it’s not the Eisenhower Matrix.) Have you ever looked at a dashboard that seems “right”…but your gut says something’s off? Maybe you’ve been there. As marketers, we’re wired to ask: - What stories are hidden between our data points? - What insights are slipping through the cracks of our marketing systems? - What if the real answers live in what we aren’t seeing? Fast-paced marketing environments often need diverse perspectives. That’s where the Inversion Technique comes in. It’s simple: flip the narrative. For example: - Struggling to measure exit points? Track entry points, too. - Obsessed with reducing risk? Try focusing on profit growth. - Tracking conversions? Start tracking churn rates. It’s not a replacement for deep analysis—it’s a powerful way to spark fresh POVs before you dive deeper. The clarity you get when you look at what’s missing can be…unsettling. But hang in there.
