CIPD Chief Executive Peter Cheese kicked off yesterday's CIPD Scotland Conference with an inspiring keynote, exploring the role of the people profession in shaping the future of work and workplaces, and making work work for our people. We live in changing times and Peter advised that "the best way to predict the future is to help to shape it." Key themes included: #Wellbeing: Jobs and work should be good for everyone, and prioritising employee wellbeing is key. #Inclusion: Peter stressed that inclusion isn’t just a moral imperative, it’s a business necessity. As people professionals we need to push hard on inclusion, and make sure our leaders understand why it's so important for business. #AI: Lean into the technology. AI should help us to create better jobs, and collaboration with tech colleagues is essential to ensure that we are making the most of the opportunity. #Linemanagers: Peter highlighted the pivotal role of line managers and urged delegates to train and support them so they can do their jobs properly. #Recruitment and #skills: “Recruit for attitude, train for skills.” Place more importance on soft skills like collaboration, communication and the ability to work as part of a team. He also said that understanding how to support and work with trade unions is crucial for people professionals.
