A rare and elusive reference from the early on in the Carrera story, the reference 2447 P with pulsation scale, specifically designed for those in the medical field. While the standard versions devoid of scales represent the purest representations of the Carrera (and are among my personal favourites), the red tachymeter and blue decimal scales were popular choices in the first series of watches (the scales would become monochromatic in the second series of manual wind pieces in the late 1960s). The applications for the tachymeter in the world of motorsport, and the decimal division for science and industry were clear, pulsation scales were really something of a niche on wrist chronographs at the time. Haute horologerie manufacturers did have a history of offering the configuration upon request of the likes of doctors, but for a larger volume producer such as Heuer it was more unusual. With only a few examples known (and an even rarer two register 3647 known as well), we are lucky to have two pieces in the museum collection. Later the pulsation graduation would be seen on more models in the 1970s including the Monza, Jarama and a special variation of the calculator (a topic for a future posting) among others, but the foundations would be laid by the 2447 P. #heuer #tagheuer #carrera #pulsation #chronograph #watches
