𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞 or is this a bit too naive? During the early days at Netflix, when Marc Randolph and his team were still shipping DVDs, their most frequent customer service issue was a missing or stolen disc. How did they handle it? They simply shipped out a replacement right away, no questions asked, at a cost of about $20 per DVD. Could some customers have exploited this generosity by falsely claiming discs were lost? Sure. But Marc held a core belief: most people are inherently honest. Instead of punishing the 98% of good customers to catch the 2% of potential scammers, they chose to make things easy for everyone. It’s bad business to treat everyone with suspicion. While we should remember to mitigate risks, we should also not forget that trust and generosity can be powerful business drivers. Instead of trying to eliminate every potential downside, focus on nurturing and amplifying the good. This approach fosters a positive environment and leads to more sustainable, impactful results.
