Watercolor painting is a versatile and expressive medium that allows for a wide range of creative possibilities. The unique characteristics of watercolor, such as its transparency and the way it interacts with paper, can create beautiful and unexpected effects. It can be used to create both loose and highly detailed works, and it has been a favorite medium for centuries among artists. And perhaps most importantly, watercolor painting is an accessible art form that anyone can enjoy, regardless of skill level or budget. It is an inexpensive and easy-to-find medium, which makes it easy to get started. The process of painting with watercolors can be meditative, helping to relax and de-stress, and can be a great way to connect with others. So, whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, watercolor painting is a worthwhile endeavor that will provide endless opportunities for self-expression and creativity. I started learning watercolors with the sole purpose of getting out of depression. Watercolor also helped me get out of my addiction to anti-depressants and sleeping pills. And now, I am a professional watercolor artist. What's your reason for learning to paint with watercolors? #learnwatercolors #learntopaint

My friend Carol Bershad and I have created an Art Sparks card deck to inspire watercolor artists to explore different ideas and techniques and to create more accomplished paintings. Our project got a nice review from watercolor artist Shari Blaukoft and Art Sparks will be featured on the New and Notable page of the next issue of Watercolor Artist Magazine. Art Sparks: An Inspiration Deck for Watercolor Artists “Every watercolor artist needs inspiration sometimes, and Art Sparks is full of great ideas. What I love best about it is that painters will find suggestions that are creative and exciting no matter what their skill level is. The concepts are clear, well-illustrated and endlessly inventive!” – Shari Blaukopf, AWS, CSPWC–artist, teacher, author Created by watercolor artists, Carol Bershad and Nan Rumpf, Art Sparks: An Inspiration Deck for Watercolor Artists is a unique new tool that can inspire even the most seasoned watercolor painters to explore new ideas and to challenge and improve their painting practice. The boxed deck of 82 5x7 inch water-resistant cards is color-coded into four subdecks that represent the decisions that artists make when beginning a new painting: Subject, Design, Technique, and Color. Each card contains prompts and is illustrated by original watercolor paintings by the authors to demonstrate the concepts. Jumpstart your creative process by using the deck in a variety of combinations to: · Get unstuck and start painting again. · Explore new techniques and color combinations. · Plan a painting or series of paintings. · Experiment on unfinished and unloved paintings. · We have Introductory offers available: 10% off One Deck (Discount code: Intro10) and 20% off Two Decks or more (Discount code: Intro20). Be sure to enter the discount code at checkout to receive the discount Now available for purchase for $60 at: www.artsparksdeck.com

The beginning of a painting is magical, full of hope and promise and endless possibility! 🤩 (The angst comes later on in the process.... ) As a teacher, this is also the most fun part, because my students think it's mad to splash colors around like that 😂 It might look crazy but it actually helps to avoid many problems: 1. It gets rid of that intimidating white paper, and gives you a base to work with. 2. It starts you off with bright, vibrant colors... beginners have a tendency to be timid and use colors that are light, dull, or muddy. 3. It forces you to look at color, light and shadow, instead of the small details which should be left for the end. 4. It reminds you not to be a slave to your reference photo, to loosen up, use your imagination, and have fun. ▶ I'll be posting the full video on my YouTube channel for those who want to learn the process or paint along with me! Comment "YouTube link please!" if you want the link! Or comment "You're the best paint-splashing watercolor artist I know!" if you want to be my best friend for the day. You tell me a secret of yours, and I'll tell you a secret of mine... 🙃😍 #watercolor #art #painting #artbyDena

JULY is Watercolor Painting month! Watercolor painting is a method of painting where water-soluble pigments are mixed with water to create a translucent, vibrant art piece. It is known for its fluidity and unpredictability, often allowing the paint to flow and blend freely. This form of art is not only visually appealing but also offers a soothing and calming experience to the artist. The act of blending colors, the unpredictable behavior of the paint, and the focus required to control the fluidity can have a meditative effect, helping the painter to stay in the present moment. The therapeutic effects of watercolor painting are numerous. The process of painting can help reduce stress and anxiety, as it offers a means of escape from daily worries, allowing the mind to focus solely on the creative task at hand. Moreover, the freedom and flexibility of watercolor painting can foster self-expression, helping individuals to communicate their feelings and thoughts in a non-verbal manner. This can be particularly beneficial for those who find it difficult to express themselves through words. #ieata, #artsaccessbility, #expressiveartstherapy, #expressiveartsheals #expressiveartsactivism, #creativity, #ieatacommunity, #creativecommunity #expressivearts, #creatives, #creativeartstherapy #experssiveartsactivism, #neuroaesthetics, #expressiveartseducator #expressiveartsadvocate, #expressiveartsfacilitator #expressiveartstherapist,#ieatareat,#ieatareace #intermodalarts, #multimodalarts, #integrativearts #artsbased, #artstherapy, #reat, #reace #creativespirit,#shiningstar

I'm finding my artistic voice more through messy improvisation than striving for perfection. Sometimes, precision is necessary. But it’s more freeing to let loose and not take your work so seriously. Letting a work of art reveal itself to you in real-time feels serendipitous. It’s a creative revelation. The painting in this picture reflects the whimsical, colorful, and carefree vibe of the weekend I painted it. I shot this process photo after the first day of painting. When I looked at it that night, I saw raw edges to clean up and colors to balance out. The next day, I finished the painting by covering up some of the expression and abstraction with smoother lines. It ended up looking more like an octopus. If I had to choose which version to look at every day, it would be the raw painting which now only exists in this photo. It shows my mind wandering around the canvas, guiding my hands in every direction, adding whatever color felt right in the moment. The finished painting is less revelatory of who I am and more representative of what I wanted you to see. But it did teach me a valuable lesson about how I want to paint in the future. What do you think of of this abstract acrylic painting? #art #painting #artisticexpression
