🎉 Six Takeaways from A Year of Planning Team Events 🎉 I won’t bore everyone by dwelling on how beneficial team events are. I think we already know how crucial they can be for company climate, team building, company loyalty etc. So, what I’m going to do instead, is list six (unconventional) things I do, when I plan the team events at Meet5: 💅 Eff Democracy: We usually determine the date for the next team event by asking everyone to vote for a day. However, on rare occasions, I don’t choose the date with the most votes. Every so often, an employee has missed three team events in a row even though they’d love to attend, but the date just never fit them. In those cases, I pick a date they voted for, to make sure they don’t get left out strategically. 🔥 Reheat Favourites: Work-life can get real busy and even though I’d love to spend hours and hours every month planning the next, most special team event ever, I’m not always able to. In those cases, I stick to old favourites like playing laser tag and pizza after. Everyone knows what they’re getting into, and I only have to do half of the planning. 😨 Choose Challenging Events: Sure, everyone would enjoy a nice evening at a restaurant and only a few will jump at the opportunity to do a 5k together - But if you challenge yourself, you might see something you wouldn’t have seen otherwise :) 💪 Do it Myself: Some things, every company’d love. But some things are perfect for your company only. Want to do a company competition? Why not design some little games you know a certain or most of your employees will enjoy/excel at, especially? Bonus: Self-made is usually cheaper ;) 👩👩👧👦 Make it Family Friendly: Of course, some events should stay company-only, but where’s the harm in letting partners and children join for a nice picnic at the local park? The (single) parents will appreciate it, trust me, and I don’t know about you, but I’m always dying to get to know my favourite coworkers’ ominous partners I’ve been hearing so much about at lunch :) 📸 Take Pictures: This one I still have to push myself to do more. I usually get caught up in the stress of planning and then enjoying the events, so I hardly ever remember to document all the fun I’m forcing my colleagues to have ;) I promise you, your employer branding team will thank you and the inner-company-meme game will explode. Those are the six things I have gathered from over a year of planning team events. Overall, it just comes down to me wanting my colleagues to have a good time (and to get footage of people giving spectacular karaoke performances). What are some tips you have? What are some team events you’d love to participate in? #teambuilding #teamevents #meet5 #HRbestpractices
