Is there an association between common blood pressure medications and increased fracture risk among older long-term nursing home residents? That is exactly what researchers set out to determine in this recent study published in JAMA Internal Medicine, which examined 29,648 older VA nursing home residents. The study found that common blood pressure medicines induce sudden dizziness caused by a temporary bout of low blood pressure, making individuals already vulnerable to balance issues even more at risk of serious injury. These findings underscore the need for heightened vigilance and caution when initiating these medications in vulnerable populations. While blood pressure medications are crucial, extra attention and monitoring is vital for this population. Preventing falls can ultimately save lives. With students back to school and respiratory illness season fast approaching, PRHC’s Emergency Department is expecting to see higher patient volumes and acuity, and longer-than-normal wait times. Patients in the ED are seen by a physician in order of priority based on the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale. The scale ranges from conditions that are life-threatening to non-urgent conditions for which care can be safely delayed. While longer wait times can be frustrating, it’s important to understand that our healthcare workers need to prioritize patients who require more urgent care based on this scale.

🔍 **The Importance of Monitoring Diabetic Feet** 👣 As a healthcare professional, I’ve seen firsthand the critical role that regular foot monitoring plays in the lives of individuals with diabetes. Diabetic patients are at an increased risk for foot complications due to neuropathy and poor circulation, which can often lead to wounds, infections, and in severe cases, amputations. 🩺 **Why Monitoring Matters:** - Early detection of issues such as ulcers, cuts, or blisters can prevent infections and complications. - Regular checks can help identify changes in skin color, temperature, or sensation, signaling potential problems. - Consistent monitoring and proper foot care can significantly reduce the risk of serious complications and improve overall quality of life. As healthcare providers, it’s our responsibility to ensure our diabetic patients understand the importance of daily foot inspections and preventative care. Let’s work together to reduce preventable foot complications and empower our patients to take control of their health. #DiabeticCare #FootHealth #PreventiveCare #Nursing #Healthcare #DiabetesManagement #FootCareNurse #TheMoreYouKnow
