Today, the Västra Götaland region begins its two-year transition from its legacy Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to Oracle Cerner's Millennium platform. There’s apprehension, as healthcare professionals - who have voiced concerns about the new system's readiness - will finally put it to the test. Sweden's decentralized healthcare system, governed at the regional level, is undergoing a substantial transformation. By next summer, 11 out of 21 regions will have initiated or completed a transition to new EHR systems within a 12-month period. This means that approximately 55% of doctors across the country will be adapting to new tools more or less simultaneously. The centrality of EHRs in a doctor's daily workflow cannot be overstated. Even minor changes in EHR efficiency can have significant impacts on overall healthcare capacity. With such a large proportion of medical professionals affected, and end users expressing doubts about some of the systems’ readiness, there are valid concerns about potential disruptions to patient care. While Västra Götaland is taking a cautious approach by operating the first hospital at 25% capacity during the initial phase, this reduction itself could lead to challenges in healthcare delivery. This kind of situation really highlights the relationships between patient safety, healthcare efficiency, and staff morale. We hope this first roll out of Millennium proves to be smoother than anticipated for its end users. #healthcare #EHRs #patientdata

Another thing to consider for EHR Integrations: Is it better to Rent or Buy your integrations?
Planning on integrating your software with Epic, Cerner, Meditech, and more EHRs? Here are some things to consider before you start: 1. Use Case - What are you trying to do and why are you trying to do it? 2. Integration Method - Based on your use case, what is the easiest way to exchange the data? HL7? FHIR? Proprietary EHR APIs? HIEs/HINs? Integration-as-a-Service Platforms? 3. Performance and Security - What are your expectations (or your clients' expectations) when it comes to integration quality? How will you monitor and measure success? 4. Expertise and Resources - Do you have the capabilities to handle the build in-house, or will you need to use someone externally? Will you need to hire more staff, outsource the work, or leverage an Integration-as-a-Service provider? 5. Cost - Is the juice worth the squeeze? It'd be a shame to invest 6 figures into an integration that never gets used. If you don't know the answers to any of the questions above, schedule some time with us to explore how we can help build you a successful integration strategy to increase revenue and lower costs. https://lnkd.in/e4FVmGPK #interoperabilty #integration #consulting #healthIT #healthcare #EHR #HL7 #FHIR
