And, most importantly, how might that impact our communities? - Open the door 🚪 Today is the first day of Sunshine Week 2024, so it's an appropriate time to think about these questions and to remind our readers of the importance of the Freedom of Information. We strongly believe that the existence of open government and, therefore, the freedom of information is essential to democracy and encourages our officials to behave both ethically and in the public interest. We also believe that the truth does not fear being challenged, and we're persistent in getting it for you. While anyone can obtain records through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, roadblocks and hindrances such as costly fees and delays have discouraged everyday citizens from submitting them — and that's where newspapers like The Post and Courier have come in to help.
