🚀 Midway Through Month Four: My Insights Analyst Journey at Britvic
Three and a half months have flown by since I transitioned from a Business Analyst to an Insights Analyst. I’m delighted to share that Shoba Sairam, our Director of Data and Analytics, has given the nod to my successful probation.
Diving into Data Analysis
It’s been an exhilarating journey, immersing myself in tools like Excel, Power BI, Alteryx, and even machine learning with Python. Additionally, I’ve familiarised myself with Tableau and have been systematically building a solid foundation in Python and SQL through Codecademy’s Data Engineer path. The thrill of automating processes, such as Excel sales reports and Power BI dashboards, has been a constant source of motivation.
A Milestone Weekend
This weekend marked a new milestone. My line manager Matthew Heywood tasked me this Friday with conducting his insights presentation and making the necessary modifications for a session next week with stakeholders of a major retailer in Ireland. The challenge extended beyond technical analysis; it was about extracting meaningful insights from the data and telling a compelling story. It has been challenging and inspiring for me, and I have realised that this is the area where I need to spend more time developing.
Insight Versus Observation
Over the past three months and half, I’ve improved my understanding of what constitutes an insight. A statement such as “Drink sales increased by 5% due to a promotion” is not actually an insight. An insight involves more than that; it’s about understanding the context and determining whether these findings align with our expectations. Observations are important, but they are just the beginning.
The Path Forward
As I reflect on my time at Britvic, my commitment to delivering value to our insights team and wider data analytics has never been stronger. While I’ll continue to enhance my analytics and automation skills, I’m also focusing on deepening my understanding of our soft drinks business and further developing my ability to derive more valuable insights and craft compelling data narratives that drive impactful decisions. #Britvic
