Singapore FinTech Festival just ended yesterday and Mastercard's dome was futuristic - and I was reminiscing about my days in fintech and where will it go from here. And here I am speaking about the reality of state of FinTech. Came home reality of state of FinTech hit me with a brick load of trucks, and I am oscillating between 2 biggest fintechs - Mercury and Wise and it showcases the terrible state fintech is in. Bit of Context: I run Mockingjay - a testing automation platform where we enable testing to catchup with development at will. Its an outcome as a service where we provide a fully capable platform + managed service; we own the KPIs and provide comprehensive testing coverage to anything going to Production. I billed a client and they paid me a lower US$ 5 digit in monthly charges. I have always banked with DBS Bank [ a traditional bank] with no issues in forever - thank you. This time i decided to bank with Wise. And my customer banks with Mercury. Payment initiated and Completed on : 23 Oct 2024 Payment received by me: NO IDEA Wise refuses to trace the payment despite providing SWIFT MT103 ( reasoning is - we have not received it so we can not trace it) - and mercury's response is at best templated. And biggest tragedy is - I was founding CTO of Nium and i am laughing my guts out. When we started Instarem - we thought someday soon we will put banks out of business - and here we are ; Finetchs have found their own place (small) between traditional banks and sitting pretty. It has become status quo - I feel like I hanged my boots too soon. I should have solved this problem in entirely. The way wind has changed direction in USA and the way technology has been changing - I have hope and I know these problems will be done with in my lifetime. #elonmusk was pissed and see what he did with USA Presidential Election. I am not angry but dissapointed in #fintech, and i will use my dissapointment in creating something useful. This isn't a rant- It's a call to action. The fintech dream isn't dead - it's evolving. I wish to add to the speed. I'm doubling down on this challenge. Through the community I co-lead with Ned Lowe, through Konfirmity, and through every venture I touch - we're going to bridge these gaps. The fintech revolution isn't over. It's just getting started.
