𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐈 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬 - 𝐏𝐡𝐢-𝟑 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐈𝐓 𝐋𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞
Microsoft has just launched the Phi-3 series, a new range of AI models, under the MIT license available on Hugging Face. The Phi-3 series includes three versions:
- 𝐏𝐡𝐢-𝟑 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢 (𝟑.𝟖𝐁): Designed to fit on your iPhone, boasting a competitive performance on MMLU with a 69% score.
- 𝐏𝐡𝐢-𝟑 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 (𝟕𝐁): Achieves a 75% on MMLU.
- 𝐏𝐡𝐢-𝟑 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐦 (𝟏𝟒𝐁): Tops with a 78% on MMLU.
These models are trained on smaller, more curated datasets, with context lengths ranging from 4K to 8K. They employ techniques like RoPE for context extension and DPO for safety alignment. Performance metrics are also impressive, with MT-bench scores of 8.38 for mini, 8.7 for small, and 8.9 for medium.
These developments follow Microsoft's trend of optimizing AI efficiency, diverging from the larger model approaches like #Llama3 and #Mixtral. With these smaller models, AI capabilities are set to become more accessible, perhaps even on our smartphones soon.
