OSHA, ASME, and ANSI are four-letter agencies that advance worker safety and uphold industry standards. What separates them is their motives and ability to enforce those standards. Here is a good way to remember them: 🚨OSHA = The Enforcer - Upholds the law and penalizes 🛠️ ASME = The Developer - Develops standards for mechanical engineering 👩🏫 ANSI = The Facilitator - Accredits the procedures of Standards Developing Organizations All these organizations promote safety, and you need to follow their standards to stay OSHA-compliant. Fines associated with violations are expensive, but failing to keep up with best practices puts your workers at risk of injury or even death. Our experts here at Mazzella can help you stay compliant in rigging, fall protection, inspections, training, and more. The welding industry is essential to construction and manufacturing but comes with significant risks. Hazards like harmful fumes, fire risks, electrical dangers, ergonomic strain, and radiation exposure make Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) critical. Implementing ISO 45001:2018 provides a framework to: -Identify Hazards and Assess Risks – Comprehensive risk assessments tailored to welding operations. -Implement Controls – Engineering controls, personal protective equipment (PPE), and administrative measures to mitigate risks. -Monitor and Improve – Regular audits and performance evaluations to ensure continuous improvement. -Empower the Workforce – Training programs to ensure workers are aware of hazards and proper safety procedures. Strong OHS programs reduce incidents, enhance productivity, ensure compliance, and build a safety-first culture. For welding operations, prioritizing safety isn't just compliance—it's a commitment to protecting lives. How does your organization address safety in high-risk environments? #ISO45001 #OccupationalHealthAndSafety #WeldingIndustry #RiskManagement #ISOConsultant #SafetyCulture #ContinuousImprovement

Did you know that Safe Work Australia has recently reduced the #Welding Fume WES (Workplace Exposure Standard) from 5 mg/m³ to 1 mg/m³ (8 hour TWA)? This was effective from January 18th, 2024 and will become law through the relevant state and territory #WHS legislation. Welding fumes are a complex mix of #hazardous chemicals including some carcinogenic. Exposure to welding fume can result in the development of occupational lung diseases. A range of controls are available including fume extraction at source, LEV and PPE. Safe Work Australia has a model Code of Practice to guide management of welding risks Contact HIBBS for more information or support in managing this hazard! #WeldingFume #WES #AirborneContaminant #OccupationalHygiene

The ANSI B11 Standards Development Committee is very pleased to announce the publication of a new Technical Report – (ANSI) B11.TR11-2024 – that presents a strategy and approach on how to CE mark machinery using ANSI consensus standards. This allows machine suppliers to meet the European Union’s Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSRs) in the Machinery Directive and Machinery Regulation. The HAS consultant review process established by the European Commission is hindering the ISO standards development process and this leads to uncertainty, confusion, and significant delay in producing EN standards and thereby, harmonized ISO standards. Because national and international standards are increasingly aligned, machine suppliers can use ANSI standards in lieu of “harmonized EN standards” and still meet the requirements for CE marking and compliance with the Machinery Directive/Machinery Regulation. What is actually required by the Machinery Directive/Regulation is to meet the EHSRs (Essential Health and Safety Requirements). Directly quoting: “When harmonized standards are not available, other technical documents may provide useful indications for applying the EHSRs of the Machinery Directive. Such documents include, for example, international standards, national standards.” B11.TR11 explains how the process works and how machinery suppliers can make effective and efficient use of ANSI standards to build safe machinery and meet the CE marking requirements. This nominally priced TR can be obtained from the standards stores at webstore.ansi.org or www.b11standards.org.

Ensuring Durability with ISO 12944-7 Comprehensive Guidelines for Paint Work ISO 12944-7 provides comprehensive guidelines for executing and supervising paint work on steel structures. It ensures that coatings are applied correctly, maintaining their protective qualities over time. Preconditions and Materials Handling Contractors must be qualified and follow a detailed quality plan. Coating materials must be stored properly and used within their recommended shelf-life to ensure effectiveness. Execution Standards The standard emphasizes the importance of applying coatings under appropriate conditions. Surfaces must be dry, and the temperature must be managed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. Application methods should be chosen based on their suitability for the specific project. Rigorous Supervision Supervision by qualified inspectors is critical. They use visual assessments and measuring instruments to ensure that the coating meets the required standards. This thorough supervision helps prevent defects and ensures long-lasting protection. #SteelProtection #PaintWork #ISO12944 #CorrosionEngineering https://lnkd.in/eVggBAMy
