Did you know warehouses have one of the highest non-fatal injury rates of any industry? Fatal injuries also increased in warehouses by 23% from 2020 to 2021. In response, OSHA has recommended companies get their pallet racks inspected by reliable third parties. Third-party warehouse racking inspections ensure you have an unbiased and accurate assessment, but what if your company has never done a third-party inspection? What if you’ve never worked with Mazzella before? What can you expect that process to look like? To better educate people on what to expect from a third-party pallet rack inspection, we followed Marc Smith, a member of our Warehouse Inspections team, as he walked us through: • What Happens Before a Third-Party Pallet Rack Inspection? • Does a Facility Need to Shut Down for a Pallet Rack Inspection? • What are Third-Party Rack Inspectors Looking For? • What if an Issue is Found During a Pallet Rack Inspection? • How Often Should You Inspect Your Pallet Racks? • And more! https://lnkd.in/ebnZVCYh

Consider the following OSHA recommendations to protect workers from fall accidents: 🦺 Installing a modular guardrail system to protect employees from fall accidents. These systems prevent falls by creating a barrier, blocking access, and by drawing special attention to dangerous areas. 🦺 Utilizing a safety gate at guardrail openings, ladderways, staircases and other high-risk areas in your facility. 🦺 Install guardrails around every overhead platform, elevated workstation, floor, or runway 4 feet or more above the lower level. 🦺 If an employee can fall onto or into dangerous equipment or machines (such as pulpers, meat grinders, conveyor belts, vats of acids, etc.), install machine guarding systems to prevent employees from getting injured, regardless of height. 🦺 Guard every floor hole into which a worker can accidentally walk (using railing and toe-board or floor hole cover). 🚨 BONUS TRACK🚨 Install Titan Anti-Slip Clips on your grated surfaces to provide enhanced grip and visibility! As safety consultants, we have seen first-hand the devastating consequences of entanglement injuries. 👷 🚨 These accidents can happen in an instant, but their impact can last a lifetime. Picture this: long hair or loose clothing getting caught in unguarded moving parts of machinery. It could be you operating the equipment, or someone working nearby. The results can be catastrophic - from scalp injuries to severe trauma or worse. Common culprits include: 🛑Rotating shafts 🛑Spinning drills 🛑Conveyor belts 🛑Lathe machines If we all work together, we can prevent these incidents. Remember, safety isn’t just about rules - it’s about caring for ourselves and our colleagues. Let’s look out for each other and speak up when we see potential hazards. #safetyculture #safetyhazard #workplacesafety

Keep Safety on TRACK: Cold Weather Injuries Prevention Spending time in cold temperatures for an extended period of time can cause injuries such as hypothermia, frostbite, and trench foot. Here are some tips to prevent cold weather injuries: 1. Dress in layers to adapt to changing temperatures or physical activity; wear the proper clothing for cold, wet, and windy conditions such as wool or synthetic insulated socks, shoes, gloves, and hats 2. Work on-site together so co-workers notice danger signs in each other 3. Drink plenty of warm beverages; avoid caffeine 4. Take breaks in a heated area to warm up if needed 5. Seek medical attention immediately if someone is experiencing symptoms of hypothermia, which includes - but is not limited to - uncontrolled shivering, slurred speech, loss of coordination, fatigue, confusion, or disorientation A special thank you to Keystone Contractors Association and Executive Director, Jon O'Brien, for this week's #ToolboxTalk #KeepSafetyOnTRACK #ColdWeatherInjuries #Prevention #Railroad
