Here's top 5 pieces of advice for our new doctors of physical therapy: 1. Don't let setting dictate your next move. Instead, choose "who" you want to help and the rest will take care of itself. 2. Negotiate based on facts and figures. End of the day, clinics are businesses. 3. As a doctor of physical therapy, you are the greatest authority on musculoskeletal care in the room. Don't let other providers try to box you out. 4. Being a clinician is just one part of your skillset. 5. You're as good as the clinicians you surround yourself with. Don't feed into the negativity and bullsh*t. I especially appreciate number 5. What are some pieces of advice for our new DPT grads entering the market? #PT #physicaltherapy #healthcare

🌟 Proud Moment 🌟 I had the opportunity to speak with KOIN News 6 about an important topic: myopia in children. As a growing concern, especially with increased screen time, it's crucial to stay informed about how early detection and effective management can make a lasting impact on children's eye health. In the interview, I discussed some of the latest treatments and management strategies we’re using at Canby Eyecare, including specialized lenses and drops in our tailored myopia management programs. 👁️ Myopia can lead to long-term vision issues, but with early intervention, we can help protect children's vision for life. Watch the full interview for more insights on how we’re addressing this challenge head-on. #MyopiaManagement #PediatricEyeCare #EyeHealth #Optometry #VisionCare #CanbyEyecare #coopervision #myopiaawareness #childrenseyehealth #myopiacollective Oregon Optometric Physicians Association American Optometric Association CooperVision US Professional & Academic Affairs https://lnkd.in/gXXZ6CNh

Accompaniment...a missing piece in medicine? Whether a 72-year-old man living with dementia or a 27-year-old woman suffering recurrent miscarriages, both patients are in need of support — of accompaniment in their journey. As part of our FACTS Teacher series, we highlight the diverse set of physicians and clinicians who contribute their time and expertise to help us educate the next generation of medical professionals via our FACTS elective. Our series continues with Dr. Angela Maupin Kristan, a family physician trained in Creighton and FEMM. Serving patients across the lifespan, from adolescent to geriatric patients, Dr. Kristan gently teaches us about the value of accompanying patients as a physician. Board members at APTA Geriatrics, An Academy of the American Physical Therapy Association used to work with PDFs and emails to communicate. Onboarding new members was a challenge under the old system. Here's how they fixed it: https://bit.ly/3SuQ3vC Board members now have: • Easy access to materials between board meetings • An easy way to see who’s accessed materials beforehand • No confusion on the most up-to-date version of materials #casestudy #boardgovernance

October is National Physical Therapy Month: a moment to recognize the unsung heroes of healthcare. As American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) reminds us, we are licensed doctors working with diverse patient populations impacted by disease, injury, and movement dysfunction. But beyond the formalities, we are the providers who help patients rebuild, recover, and rediscover the strength they thought they'd lost. We guide them through the small victories and the hard-fought battles, walking beside them on their journey back to movement and independence. Historically, we've faced challenges that tested our resilience, from limited recognition to navigating a complex healthcare system. Yet, despite the hurdles, our mission has always been clear: restore not just movement, but a functional quality of life. We've come a long way from where we started, and though the road ahead is still filled with obstacles, we continue to evolve. So here’s to the physical therapists out there, charting the path forward with unshakable passion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to transforming lives. Our journey continues. -Ryan #physicaltherapy #physiotherapy #October #PTmonth

Be kind to your doctor. Trust me nobody really is anymore! https://lnkd.in/eaU5FqX8 #KindnessMatters #HealthcareHeroes #HumanityInHealthcare #SpreadKindness #DoctorPatientRelationship #Gratitude #ActsOfKindness #PatientAppreciation #MedicalCommunity #PositiveImpact #SmallActsOfKindness #EmpathyInMedicine #HealthcareStories #MakeADifference #Inspiration #DoctorLife #PatientExperience #ConnectingThroughKindness #ReflectAndConnect Doctor-patient relationship, Physician burnout, Medical empathy, Healthcare compassion, Doctor appreciation, Patient trust, Physician support, Healthcare professionalism, Empathetic healthcare, Doctor mental health I recently did surgery on a young boy, who had a birthmark that was pretty significant on his chin and neck. It bothered him for many years and he finally got a quick 5 to 10 minute surgery in the office and I removed it. At the postop visit not only did he bring me some cookies, but he actually drew something for me. It was really touching. I think in today’s busy world we forget how to be human sometimes. I can tell you when I was in medical school almost 30 years ago, on rotations patients would routinely would bring something to the doctors. But that’s transitioned pretty significantly where nobody really ever brings us anything anymore. But about once a month somebody does, but I haven’t had anybody make me a card or drawing in many many years. Something so simple was really so touching. So let’s please just realize that we’re all trying to get through this thing called life and be kind to each other. It doesn’t take much and it’s certainly not very expensive. It’s not about the cookies. It’s not about drawing a card; it’s about the effort and the humanity. And it totally made my day. Think about that for a second, something so simple changed my entire day and week. Dr. Sam Speron

Raising Awareness About a Harmful Practice in Our Community During my orthopedic rounds, I observed that in my town, many people still seek help from unlicensed practitioners, known as Al-Basir, when they suffer from trauma or fractures. Instead of visiting hospitals or qualified doctors, they rely on someone with no medical training. Unfortunately, this often leads to severe complications, including deformities, as I’ve seen in patients, mostly children, who are brought in by their parents months after the injury, complaining of malunion and deformity. This is a serious issue that needs urgent attention. We must raise awareness and educate people about the dangers of such practices. Additionally, finding sustainable solutions—through local healthcare initiatives, policy reforms, and community education programs—can help reduce these preventable complications. Let’s start a conversation about how we can encourage people to seek professional healthcare and protect our community from further harm. Call to Action: I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on possible solutions and how we can foster positive change. #RaiseAwareness #OrthopedicCare #PatientSafety #TraumaCare #MalunionPrevention #HealthcareInSudan #CommunityHealth #MedicalReform

Having a 'regular doctor' – a model known as continuity of care – could reduce doctor workload while improving patient health 🩺 Researchers from the University of Cambridge and INSEAD analysed data from more than 10 million consultations in 381 English primary care practices over 11 years. When patients saw their regular doctor for a consultation, they waited on average 18% longer between visits, compared to patients who saw a different doctor. The productivity benefit of continuity of care was larger for older patients, those with multiple chronic conditions, and individuals with mental health conditions.
