It is encouraging to read the excellent Workshop Report from the Sustainable Energy Association about Barriers and Solutions for a Technology-Agnostic Approach to Heat and Buildings. https://lnkd.in/eBT7jMdb This resonates firmly with Therm LZC’s MEP design philosophy that each building is unique and should be designed accordingly with a blend of low-carbon heating and cooling, on-site energy generation, energy storage, heat recovery and building controls to optimise energy efficiency, decarbonise and achieve the desired levels of comfort for users.   It would be great to see a change in government narrative that reflects the wide range of low carbon and renewables options available, not just ASHPs. #LZC #renewables #energyefficiency #decarbonise

Yesterday Members of the European Parliament adopted plans to help reduce the energy consumption and greenhouse-gas emissons from the building sector. The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive aims to progressively reduce greenhouse gas emissons and energy consumption in the EU building sector and make it climate neutral by 2050. It also aims to push the member states to activate measures to ensure a reduction in the average primary energy used. As an example the residential buildings need to reduce the average primary energy used of at least 16% by 2030. Follow the link below to read more. 📢 🏢 🍃 EU adopts new rules requiring all new buildings to be zero emissions by 2030! The updated directive provisions for all new residential and non-residential buildings to have zero on-site emissions from fossil fuels by 2030, with publicly-owned buildings required to reach this milestone by 2028.  ☀ All new buildings should be solar-ready and capable of hosting rooftop photovoltaic or solar thermal installations. 💵 Member states are required to establish national building renovation plans to decarbonize their building stock. According to the European Commission, buildings in the EU are responsible for 40% of our energy consumption and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions. That is the way to do it - US Government define a Zero Emission Building in 7 Pages for all major asset classes. It is: 👇 ⭐ Efficient (>75 Energy Star Score) ⭐ Fossil Free ⭐ Powered by clean energy It is not perfect (Embodied Carbon missing, its not science based trajectory) but on the other hand compare that to Europe. Energy efficiency of buildings: MEPs voted the deal! The revised Energy Performance of Buildings directive sets the rules: - Member states must aim to phase out fossil fuels in heating and cooling by 2040.   - All new buildings should be zero-emissions from 2030.   - Subsidies for stand-alone fossil fuel boilers will be prohibited as of 2025.
