The significance of winning the Bob Vila awards needs to be underlined. There is a tremendous amount of work behind bringing each of these products successfully to market. Steve Jobs spoke about this in very focused and detailed ways: "One of the things that really hurt Apple was after I left John Sculley got a very serious disease. And that disease, I’ve seen other people get it, too, it’s the disease of thinking that a really great idea is 90 percent of the work, and that if you just tell all these other people “here’s this great idea” then of course they can go off and make it happen. And the problem with that is that there’s a just a tremendous amount of craftsmanship in-between a great idea and a great product, and as you evolve that great idea it changes and grows it never comes out like it starts because you learn a lot more as you get into the subtleties of it. And you also find there’s tremendous trade-offs that you have to make. there are just certain things you can’t make electrons do, there are certain things you can’t make plastic do or glass do or factories do or robots do. And as you get into all these things, designing a product is keeping 5,000 things in your brain, these concepts, and fitting them all together and kind of continuing to push to fit them together in new and different ways to get what you want and every day you discover something new that is a new problem or a new opportunity to fit these things together a little differently. It’s that process that is the magic." From these words we can begin to see how a company like Stanley Black and Decker continues to strive to make sure that the maximum number of consumers can actually benifit from the great ideas that have made it to an award winning product stage.

"The companies that are authentic about their #values are the ones that succeed in the long term." — Howard Schultz    And the inverse: “Companies that compromise their values for short-term gain will lose in the long-term. “ -Jonathan Aceves It is critical to know your core values and to live them as a #business owner and leader.  I learned this lesson the hard way.  I was a partner in a Construction Company, and our first core value was “We value integrity in all of our dealings”.   We had an employee who was a  #construction superintendent, who was good at his job, but had questionable ethics.  We had multiple construction projects, and I started to realize that i didn’t think he was being completely honest with me or with our clients.  It mostly looked like little white lies, about progress, about change orders, about hours on the job, etc.  I started to see a pattern, but by the time i realized it was a problem, i was afraid to lose him–he was our senior superintendent, overseeing multiple jobs.   Ultimately, what i could see about the problem was only the tip of the iceberg, and we ended up losing big on three major construction projects, which ultimately ended up spelling the end of the company.  Had i held true to the core values of the company, I believe there would have been a very different ending to the story.   #corevalues #CRE Finem Group at Meybohm Commercial
