SFH Memory Walk 2024 The walk may be over, but the reason for doing it has not changed. Losing a mother, father, son, daughter, sibling, etc. to a debilitating condition is traumatic? There is still time to do your bit before the Just Giving page closes. If you haven’t been in this position, it is almost impossible to imagine all of the feelings that fly around the family, and friends. None of us want to be in that position but, according to the statistics, we’ll probably be there at some point in our lives. It’s places like Saint Francis Hospice that provide the support that everyone needs to get through these most difficult of times. I have been in this position losing three aunts and a Mother-in-Law to such conditions and all of them were supported by the hospice movement. With my two of aunts, I was quite a lot younger as I was cocooned by my family from the worst of the impacts. With my Mother-in-Law, I was right in the middle of it. Everyone closest to her was in a right mess and as I was a little more detached I was trying my best to support those feeling the worst effects arising from the illness. That was then, but what can I, and you, do now? Our bit!! And let’s be honest, for the hospice to be there when you come to need them, we need to act now. That’s why I took part in the Memory Walk in on Sunday. The worst thing I have had to do, this time, is walk for a while. This is nothing to those who have to live with seeing their loved one slowly disappear in front of their eyes and dealing with the loss after they have gone. I have not reached my target yet, but I’m making progress. Thank you to those who have already donated. 📢 Insights: Parenting and Early Years Services 📢 Our research reveals the urgent need for greater investment and integrated support in the Parenting and Early Years sector. Earlier this year, our research team travelled across the UK, engaging with grant holders and organisations working in this area and local authorities to better understand the state of Parenting and Early Years provision. Here’s what we found: 💡 Early intervention matters: Preventative services are crucial for reducing family crises, but funding cuts have left these services vulnerable. 👥 Community organisations are key: Local support is often the first touchpoint, connecting families to broader resources. 🤝 Collaboration is essential: A cohesive approach across sectors is essential to providing holistic support for families. With only 6% of charitable funds reaching children 0-5, there is a gap to fill.
