There is an idea in project management across many industries differentiating between the idea of "Done" and "Done Done". Done is often characterized as something like "Ready for Customers to Use". Done Done is often characterized as "Feature flags removed, dead-code cleaned up, as-builts updated, etc.". IMHO this is a fine distinction however too often pressure to ship deprioritizes getting to done done. This leaves dangling chad that inevitably results in sub-standard outcomes for customers and slows down the team. Here's a tactic I use to make progress on projects: milestone-based thinking. 1️⃣ Milestones are critical achievements that contribute to a key result. 2️⃣ Tasks are the individual actions completed in order to reach the milestone. This method breaks a project down into pieces and outlines specific steps to complete each piece, in turn completing the project. Here are some examples:

What's the first thing you do when handed a new project? Do you reach out to project team members? Establish a schedule? A budget? Are you handed a schedule and a budget along with the project? What kind of background research or due diligence are you responsible for? What deliverables are expected? What outcomes are you held accountable for? What kind of communication plan do you need? These are some of the thoughts that go through my head when a project is handed to a project manager. Let's start a conversation around what goes into the initiation of a project and how different people get started. Some may have more regimented systems, while others are more relaxed and flexible.
