With the recent graduations that have been happening, my intrusive thoughts have wondered about the relevance of the certificates awarded. Having graduated 7 years ago and struggling to find a job where I can apply the relevant skills I have learned, I have concluded that the certificates awarded are slowly losing relevance. Please let me know what you think down below. https://lnkd.in/dNeHBrdi

I recall the days when I was in primary school, watching my peers receive awards and feeling a sense of self-doubt. I wondered why some students were favored by teachers, while others like me felt left out. But as I looked around at my friends who excelled in class, I realized that their intelligence was not the only factor at play. Some of my friends received awards, yet continued to push themselves to achieve more. Looking back, it was a valuable lesson in perseverance and resilience. As I transitioned to high school, I faced new challenges and struggled to stay focused. I made mistakes, and unfortunately, I didn't always meet my own expectations. Feeling lost and confused was a difficult experience, but it didn't break me. Instead, it motivated me to work harder and learn from my mistakes. Fast-forward to my tertiary education, where I thrived! With a newfound sense of purpose and determination, I excelled academically and professionally. My hard work paid off, and I graduated and still completing my second qualification. Today, I am proud to say that I am working for one of the best government departments, where I am constantly learning and growing as a professional. I must admit that it's not always easy. There are days when self-doubt creeps in, and I wonder if I'm good enough. But every time I face a challenge or encounter setbacks, I remind myself of my journey so far. From struggling in school to excelling in tertiary education and now working for a top government department, I am proud of my progress. I believe that my experiences have taught me the importance of perseverance, resilience, and self-compassion. It's okay to make mistakes – it's how we learn and grow from them that matters. As I continue on this journey, I am excited to see where it takes me next.

This year has been a journey of LHS = RHS (the only thing I remember from mathematics🫢). A journey filled with ups and downs, bold steps out of my comfort zone, and valuable lessons learned. One of my most significant steps was applying for the Chevening Awards. I started the application process with zero expectations because, from the start, I heard from my network how young I am and how nearly impossible it would be to get in, given the wide range of experienced applicants. Despite the odds, I decided to give it a shot. A few months later, to my utter amazement, I was among the 0.5% of applicants shortlisted for an interview. This achievement boosted my confidence, proving I could stand out on my first attempt. Months later, I found out *I DID NOT MAKE IT* to the final selection. But is that the end? Absolutely not! Here are my takeaways: 1. Be grateful for the network and mentorship around you 🙏 2. Remain optimistic and humble -Our day will come 🌟 3. I now know 100 ways of how NOT to do something 🤔 4. I have so much info about colleges, courses, cost of living, expenses, and accommodation that I might as well start a consultancy (pun intended) 🏫💡 5. One step ahead in the process made me more self-aware 🚀 Here’s to embracing the journey, learning from every experience, and never giving up! 💪✨
