In the wastewater industry, our commitment to public health and environmental protection is ongoing. It requires constant vigilance, continuous learning, and a proactive approach to emerging challenges. As we look to the future, what do you see as the most pressing issues our industry needs to address?

The proposed government review of our water sector has got to go way beyond just the work of Defra and water company failings. It needs to look at the role of the regulators and the impact of planning reform and growth on both water quality, and as importantly, water quantity to protect supply and ensure there is enough for the environment. England is facing a deficit of 50bn ltr per day by 2050. We need a cross-government, independent review and some radical thinking. Catherine Moncrieff is spot on.

In an unprecedented move, MDNR's Air Pollution Control Program (APCP) is challenging USEPA on two critical issues: Interstate Transport and Regional Haze. More detail at the "Missouri Air Compliance Seminar" (November 6) https://lnkd.in/eG2qvv6 Missouri is not alone, but the concerns raised by MDNR strike at the heart of what constitutes "cooperative federalism" and is a disturbing departure from a historically good working relationship with USEPA. The APCP raises concerns over the EPA’s lack of engagement, failure to share key data, unwillingness to offer solutions, a departure from past practices, and a departure from a normally collaborative approach. 🚨 Important Update from St. Lucie West Services District 🚨 In response to a recent U.S. District Court ruling, the St. Lucie West Services District (SLWSD) is discontinuing its use of chemical fluoride feed systems. The court determined that fluoride levels above 0.7 mg/l pose an unreasonable risk to health and the environment, particularly for vulnerable populations. As a result, SLWSD will halt all chemical fluoride feeding while awaiting further guidance from St. Lucie County, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), and state authorities. We will continue to monitor water quality, including fluoride levels, in compliance with current regulations. “Public health and safety are our top priorities,” said Joshua Miller, SLWSD District Manager. “We are committed to following the guidance of relevant authorities during this time of transition.” Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available.
