Memorial Day weekend is upon us. As we gather with family and friends around the proverbial barbecue grill, let us forever remember those who have fallen, those who have gone before us; may they never be forgotten and may their spirits live long and high. Please remember the intent of this Day of Remembrance; may this video aid in that reflection. As you watch the video - consider this; watch it with your family, friends, and fellow Marines. "Taking Chance" is a story is about the experience Lieutenant Colonel (LtCol) Mike Strobl, USMC as he escorted the remains of Private First Class (PFC) Chance Phelps, USMC from Dover Air Force Base to his home. LtCol Stroble was portrayed by Kevin Bacon. PFC Phelps was posthumously promoted to Lance Corporal (L/Cpl). It's about Valor, Honor and Respect. https://lnkd.in/gTEh5Yj2 S/F Marine Corps League National Public Relations Committee
This is a movie that tells an important part of the story. There is also the warrior who accompanied the body back from the war zone on the seemingly endless flight. There is also the stay of the team who meet with the family members whose hero died. There is the story of the team members who had to stay in-country and fight on. Yes, this is a good reminder of what part of Memorial Day means. Please consider the rest of the story.
Michael Strobl, Ph.D. is now the ADC M&RA ensuring these values remain integrated throughout our Corps. Glad to be part of the extended family alongside the MCL and so many other great organizations who remain Semper fi to those who served and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
I served with Chance Phelps. This is a very interesting take on what happens to a fallen Marine once they leave the theatre of operations. We don’t know because we have to stay there.
If I ever had a chance to meet Kevin Bacon, I would thank him for his performance in this movie. Plus I think he’s the only actor I know to have worn Alpha’s in two different movies.
Mike Strobl is a hell of a leader and mentor, he set the example for many Marine Officer on how to conduct their duties.
For those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, remember them and keep close to your heart. Their service continued our life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness that our great nation offers. Freedom is not free nor should it be taken for granted. Our strength is in our unity. Let us all remember everyday the sacrifices of others and challenge ourselves to do better, do more, and give grace to our fellow citizens.
Coming from a multigenerational military family, American ince before the Revolution, Memorial Day is the worst day of my year, including Veteran's Day. If not for my Marine buddies, I wouldn't leave home. Certainly not for the speeches. Semper fidelis, y'all
One of the greatest stories. It truly embodies the honor, the fraternity, and the essence of what it means to be a United States Marine. If you've ever lost someone in combat, this movie is for you. Semper fidelis.
See the incredible dedication to PFC Phelps at the https://nmmv.org/ in Dubois, WY when you are heading west to the Tetons. So grateful to have nmmv as a sponsor of the navy-cycling.com BamaRama500!
