We’re always thinking globally, drawing inspiration from a wider audience and blending cultures, materials, and aesthetics that evoke a sense of wanderlust and timeless style. Biophilia is a term used to describe the innate connection between humans and the natural environment. The peace and relaxation we experience in nature is something we all know to be true. This is why we choose to vacation on beaches and in forests. Biophilic design, then, is the man-made designing of our lived environments so that we can benefit from the same psychological benefits of being out in nature. Oliver Heath, an architect that uses biophilic design, explains that biophilic design, has important psychological effects on the human body. Check this out: - Simple things, like optimizing exposure to daylight in education settings can show a 20–26% increase in learning, improved attendance, and a 5–14% increase in test scores. - Further, students have a significantly lower heart rate when learning in classrooms whose walls are made of wooden panels, rather than harder, man-made materials. - In healthcare, patients with a view of nature experience an 8.5% decrease in the time they stay in the hospital.
