🌟 Introducing Yourself to Potential Teammates 🌟 In our last post, we discussed how to find teammates for hackathons. Now, let’s talk about how to introduce yourself effectively, whether you're at an in-person or hybrid/virtual hackathon. Introducing yourself in the proper way is very crucial. In my experience, I’ve seen many people give just a one-line intro, leaving us with little knowledge about them or their skills; this makes it harder to find like-minded teammates. Here's an introduction template that you can use, regardless of in-person or hybrid/virtual hackathon 🗣️ Template: "Hi, I'm [Your Name]. I'm a [Your Role, e.g., full stack developer, designer, project manager, etc.] with experience in [Key Skills, e.g., Python, UX design]. I'm really excited about this hackathon because [Reason, e.g., I'm passionate about AI and machine learning, I want to learn new things, etc]. I'm looking to team up with people who are interested in [Specific Area or Goal, e.g., developing innovative healthcare solutions]." Note: If its a virtual hackathon, be sure to include your time zone in your introduction as well, so teammates can coordinate effectively. When introducing yourself, keep it concise and highlight your key skills and goals. This will effectively set the stage for successful collaborations. In our next post, we’ll dive into what to do if a teammate leaves midway through the hackathon. Stay tuned! 🚨 Looking for hackathon teammates and guidance? It's that time of year when the best minds at Gett gather together to tackle some of the most exciting problems. This year for the first time, I was asked to join the leading team of the #Hackathon. The competition was fierce, with so many innovative ideas. It was an incredible and humbling experience to see such brilliant concepts come to life in less than 48 hours. 17/21 teams reached the demos with baked solutions! Truly inspiring 💡 Not only that, but according to our CEO Matteo de Renzi (and many others) this turned out to be “The best Hackathon we ever had at Gett”, or as someone else told me - “It's almost like you could take the top 8-9 ideas and build a very successful roadmap based on them". The excitement across departments and geographies was real. To me, the following are what made it exceptional: 🌎 Diversity: It’s not just a buzzword, it actually works. Diverse teams have the potential to come up with cross-functional solutions that are so elegant it makes it seem easy. Our top 3 (even 5!) teams this year were extremely diverse groups, with experts from across the board holding vast knowledge of our top main markets. 🚿 Relatable theme: The best ideas come in the shower right? Make sure people can leverage the hackathon to turn those lightbulb moments into action. Choose themes that resonate with everyone. And I mean everyone - from Sales to Ops to CExp and R&D/Systems. While these events naturally attract the latter, this year we hoped to engage the rest of the business too. Therefore, the theme that was chosen - “Improve my day2day” - was broad enough to engage everyone while addressing actual pain points, no matter how small or big they are. 🌟 Dream teams: Ensure teams have the right mix of skills and perspectives. As the leadership team, familiarise yourselves with the ideas in advance so you can help assemble balanced teams with all the necessary expertise, leading to more effective problem-solving. Is the idea heavily dependent on AI? Help them find a stellar data scientist to join the team. Is it a payment-related solution? Make sure they have a finance wizard on board. Is it aimed at solving a long-term pain point? Pair them with someone who knows the industry's ins and outs. Are there two ideas with similar scope? Suggest they team up (the winning team was a merge of two ideas from IL and the UK!). None of this would have happened without the Hackathon leading team, the live spirit behind it all - Noa Rechnitz Yevgeni Mumblat Daniel Corcos Federico Dayan, and our one and only CTO - Yaki Zakai. It was a pleasure taking this journey with you, all committed to the mission of making this Hackathon record-breaking despite our busy schedules. Here's to many more! 🚀🏆 #GettHackathon2024 #Innovation #RecordBreaking
