What a great conversation with Zach Crenshaw on the ‘To The Point: A Pinkston Podcast’ about empowering students and educators. Key takeaways → 1. Transforming school culture boosts teacher retention. 2. Use real-time data to connect inputs (educator upskilling) to outcomes (student achievement), informing the next steps. 3. Treat teachers as talent. When teachers feel valued and supported, they are retained at higher rates. 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟴 𝗼𝗳 𝟯𝟬: 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁 👫💪 Today, we start the second week of this challenge—woohoo! 🎉 And today’s walk had a special guest: 𝘋𝘢𝘥 𝘫𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯! Coincidentally, today’s lesson was all about making homeschooling a family team effort. The podcast offered 10 ways dads can dive into the homeschool experience, and it was so inspiring to think of all the ways a father’s presence can enrich the journey: 1. Show interest in what the kids are learning; start conversations. 2. Offer to listen to their oral exams at the end of each term. 3. Share bedtime stories or read aloud on days off. 4. Take the kids on nature walks (just like today!). 5. Lend a hand around the house to support the main teacher. 6. Cultivate and share your own interests with them. 7. Take the family to museums, parks, or aquariums. 8. Attend homeschool conferences together. 9. Teach a lesson or two. 10. And perhaps my favourite: Share your own life stories. Homeschooling as a team? Now that’s something special. Today’s takeaway is a reminder of the invaluable role dads (or any supportive partner) can play in education. How do you get family involved in learning at home? #Day8of30 #MotionAndMentorship #HomeschoolJourney #CharlotteMason #TeamEffort

Hands up if you've ever felt like your child's or student's IEP goals were just...meh. 🤷♀️ You put in the work, made them SMART, and tied them to standards. But when it came down to it, they still felt disconnected from what the child really needed to blossom. You've gotten so bogged down in checklists and compliance that you feel like you've ended up with cookie-cutter goals plucked from a textbook, not tailored to a child's life. In this episode of the Special Education Inner Circle Podcast, I'm breaking down my step-by-step framework for writing IEP goals that are: ✅ Reflective of that child's strengths, interests, and individualized needs (not just the standards) ✅ Focused on cultivating their independence and confidence ✅ Woven seamlessly into their daily routines for constant practice and mastery ✅ Continuously progress-monitored with clear data (no guesswork!) ✅ Revised and refined as needed to keep things current and motivating This is how we stop writing goals on autopilot and start truly moving the needle for children. No more boxed-in, cookie-cutter goals that check compliance but don't inspire real growth. Hit the link to dive into my 5-step system for crafting IEP goals that actually stick and create sustainable progress! https://lnkd.in/eer5smXW

Education is ever changing. Science is evolving and we are looking into areas of human psyche that was previously taboo. An interesting Podcast to connect in with as we reach the end of Neurodiversity week is Emily Kircher-Morris' Neurodiversity Podcast. There are many I have played on my drives home that have solidified or improved my practice as a leader and teacher of Gifted Education. My favourite topics of hers are: Interoception and ODD https://lnkd.in/gS9RX4J7

🚗 Turning Commutes into last lasting impact: A Parenting Hack That Works Wonders 🎧 As parents, we often look for creative ways to enrich our children’s lives, especially when time is tight. One of the most effective (and enjoyable) methods I've found is during our longer car rides. Instead of the usual background noise, I like to turn on a podcast that feeds the mind—something educational yet engaging. Here’s the best part: My 10-year-old doesn’t even realize that he’s learning! Whether it’s a deep dive into the mysteries of the universe, the fundamentals of physics, or some powerful life lessons from Tony Robbins, he’s absorbing valuable knowledge while simply enjoying the ride. ----- Why This Works: → Passive Learning: By simply listening, kids can pick up complex ideas without feeling like they're in a classroom. → Curiosity Sparked: Topics like space and self-improvement naturally intrigue young minds, making them eager to learn more. → Quality Time: These moments create opportunities for meaningful discussions, allowing us to bond over new ideas and concepts. I’ve noticed that sometimes he’ll start asking questions or even just sit quietly, completely engrossed in the content. It’s in these moments that I see the magic happening—learning without the pressure, growth without the grind. ----- A Few Tips for Fellow Parents: → Choose Wisely: Find podcasts that balance fun and education. Not all educational content will resonate, so it might take a bit of trial and error. → Engage Afterwards: Ask them what they found interesting or what they learned. This helps reinforce the ideas and opens up the floor for deeper conversations. → Make it Routine: Turning drives into mini learning sessions can become a cherished routine, something they look forward to as much as you do. ----- If you’re a parent, educator, or just someone who enjoys lifelong learning, I’d love to hear your thoughts. What podcasts have you found to be both educational and entertaining for kids? Let’s share some recommendations and keep the learning going—one car ride at a time. 🚙 #Parenting #Education #LifelongLearning #PodcastsForKids #WorkLifeBalance
