I am sure anyone who has been around LinkedIn or probably every other social media source for more that a few years has heard the "starfish story". The original story (as far as I can find [1969- Loren Eiseley's 'The Star Thrower' in The Unexpected Universe], feel free to correct me) goes slightly different from what we have become familiar with. In the original, our narrator leaves the star thrower and dismisses his efforts as fruitless. Through the night, as we accompany thoughts of deity, perspective and struggle. He returns to the coast having gained a new perspective and acts differently than before, joining the thrower. Our narrator gains connection and discovery, flinging themselves with the starfish, feeling a joy of life through his deliberate and considerate actions - being gentle with the starfish when picking them up and deliberate in his cast to get them to the sea. He was wrong to walk away, but he then considered and examined and changed his mind. He then made a difference to each of those starfish with a new perspective and appreciation for life and its value. Sometimes, we forget that just because we may have walked away in the past, does not mean we can't change our minds. There is no shame in being wrong if we can admit that we were wrong, put it behind us and make it right. TL:DR - It is okay to change your mind when you learn you were wrong. It is okay to admit mistakes, because then you can start repairing and preventing them.
