Three weeks, a construction site and far too many pints later and I’m on my way home. It’s been a whirlwind trip to London to help open the new Time+Tide Watches studio and I’m back in Qatar waiting on my connecting flight. Although it’s not midnight this time (lucky me), I’m delirious enough to brain-dump all over LinkedIn, so humour me and let's talk about discounting. As a retail business, we need to respect our value. I think this can manifest in many ways but one of the most obvious ones is staying true to your products' value proposition. If you truly believe in what you're offering, you don't have to give discounts. Doing so degrades the customer experience and devalues your brand. I would even take it a step further and say that it compromises the customer's enjoyment of the product well into their ownership. If we discount, we reduce its perceived value in front of the customer and as an authority, they will believe us. What are your thoughts about discounting, is it good or bad for a business in the long term? Come at me in the comments. Big thanks to Andrew McUtchen and Scott Jungwirth for having me in London, big things ahead. xx #retail #luxuryretail #watchretail

The UAE-based Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) Group, known for its shopping malls and retail operations, has announced a slight uptick in its net profit, reaching AED2.7 billion ($735 million) in 2023, compared to AED2.4 billion in the previous year. Despite facing challenges in the retail sector due to geopolitical factors, the group achieved a 1% increase in consolidated revenue, reaching AED34.5 billion. A significant highlight was the Lifestyle vertical, which saw a remarkable 29% growth, surpassing AED1 billion for the first time. MAF Group's EBITDA also saw a notable rise of 12% to AED4.6 billion, while total assets expanded to AED69.7 billion. MAF Properties emerged as a key performer, with revenue soaring by 20% to AED6.9 billion and EBITDA climbing by 21% to AED3.6 billion. This growth was attributed to increased foot traffic and higher occupancy rates, particularly in the Tilal Al Ghaf development. In the shopping malls segment, tenant sales reached AED30 billion, overall occupancy rose to 96%, and footfall increased by 8%, totaling 232 million visitors. Meanwhile, the entertainment vertical experienced a 7% revenue growth to AED1.8 billion, with cinemas gradually recovering from previous setbacks. #UAE #MajidAlFuttaim #Profit #Dubai #Increases

Few weeks ago one of our franchisor inquired us why we aren't in Certain mall in Kathmandu ? Or trying to get a space? A critical underlying issue is the inability of mall management to view themselves as partners to the brands rather than mere landlords. Successful malls today must support their tenants, acting as partners through thick and thin, rather than focusing solely on rental income. To sustain/reatin and attract brands malls must work tirelessly to create an ecosystem that caters not only to customers' needs but also to the needs of brands. This involves fostering a competitive yet complementary mix of brands within the mall. By embracing this partnership mindset, malls can create thriving environments that benefit both retailers and shoppers. From a retailer's perspective, particularly anchor stores, it is essential to be in a mall that supports growth and success through active collaboration and mutual support. Meanwhile, customers seek malls that offer diverse and appealing brand choices, as well as vibrant community spaces that enhance their shopping experience. These malls lack of focus on community engagement, Insufficient events, entertainment options, and social spaces limited their ability to attract visitors. They also failed to adapt to changing customer preferences, with stagnant store offerings and a lack of modern amenities making them less appealing to shoppers seeking a contemporary experience. Having worked with some of the best malls in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar, I have realized that modern malls should not just be rent-hungry Landlord but rather partners to brands and facilitators for a customers. #RetailEcosystem #MallSuccess #RetailPartnerships #CommunityHubs #CustomerExperience #malls #Nepal #kathmandu #Brands #retailor

Dubai developers reward top-performing brokers with luxury incentives, including cars, iPhones, watches, and cash bonuses. These rewards, given during annual, semi-annual, and quarterly ceremonies, motivate brokers to drive sales and close deals faster, benefiting developers with increased sales volume. Damac Properties, Samana Developers, and Azizi Developments are some of the top firms recognizing brokers with prizes like Mercedes-Benz cars, Rolex watches, and exclusive trips. Samana Developers recently launched a Dh3.2 million incentive program, resulting in a 600% surge in sales in 2023. Brokers, driven by commissions and rewards, are key to Dubai's real estate market growth, with 10,000 new broker licenses issued in 2024. #dubai #dubailuxury #cars #iphone #topperforming #brokers #dubairealestate #luxury #benz #rolex
