"The two most powerful warriors are patience and time." 2018 - Many of us met with the IOC in Switzerland to explore esports. 2024 - IOC proposes the Esports Olympic Games! Could start next year. Some good ideas just take a while. I am optimistic about the additional cultural legitimacy the Olympics can provide to esports. And the generational relevancy and digital engagement esports can provide to the Olympics. There WILL be stumbles out of the game. More likely than not the very first games selected by the IOC will not be ideal. But ultimately more competitive gaming and more media content and coverage benefits the games industry, the esports industry and most importantly the esports competitors themselves -- given patience and time.

Using Loadout Esports & Gaming data, powered by GWI, we're able to create clear segmentations of the global esports fanbase. We class 6% of the 16-64 Online population in the 16 markets we cover as "esports obsessives" (a subset of esports fans). This means they frequently tune into games, watch for long periods of time and consider themselves very interested in esports overall. Overall, nearly 51% of the online population hold some interest in esports. While they may not all watch every day, or know much about the top players and teams, there's potential to turn this large casual fanbase into passionate viewers as esports matures. How can esports continue to grow and convert fans into obsessives?

Using our dataset we can dive down into each of these segments and find out what makes them tick. This slide is an excerpt from the presentation we're doing at #iGBLive next month. Excited for people to see the rest!

47% of gamers are women, but only 5% make it as esports pros. 😳 But, we’re working to change that. Sky Broadband, in partnership with Guild Esports, is empowering women to game competitively by creating the UK’s first-of-its-kind esports initiative to drive equality in gaming. Two tournaments. One final. 🏆 The winners of the Racers and Soccer Eseries will culminate in the Women’s Esports Finals, where cash prizes, pro contracts and Sky Full Fibre will be on the line. Click the link in the comments to learn how together, we’re changing the game. #GILD #PoweringThePros #SkyGuildGaming #Gaming #Esports
