Last month, searches for “vintage white dresses” shot up 54% compared to the year prior (the RealReal first saw demand for wedding attire pick up towards the end of 2021). Social Media has created dress overexposure - wedding albums are now curated Instagram galleries, and the chances of having the same look as another woman has ticked up significantly — so for increasingly many women, a unique vintage dress is the way to go. Galia Lahav soft launched Re:Galia with Treet in March, potentially signifying an industry-wide shift in the bridal resale landscape. The success of the platform hinges on Galia being able to reimagine and cater to what customers want - effectively bridging the gap between the growing secondhand and vintage market with the bridal market. Many brides still want to experience that special in-person moment. But for brides like Hailey Bieber, Alexandra Cooper (Call Her Daddy), and Sofia Richie Grainge, having multiple outfit changes lined up for their big day is to be expected. Do bridal companies need a loyalty program? Apparently David's Bridal seems to think so. It isn’t based on the repeat offender but on the bride influencing her wedding guests to purchase their dresses at the store allowing the bride to earn discounts and other benefits The lower tiers, with associated perks like free photo coasters and discounts on certain wedding services, are designed to ensure all Diamond Loyalty members can access extra benefits. Not sure whether I believe this is a viable strategy long term. Kleinfeld’s is famously known for being the focus of TLC’s hit show “Say Yes to the Dress.” This is a big deal because of their exposure – the magnitude of their reach is outstanding. With dresses for several different budgets, another player is saying, it’s OK to wear a dress that was preloved. “The marketplace to buy and sell your wedding gown, with the most trusted brand in bridal.” All gowns go through a thorough inspection to insure authenticity and quality. Each inspection is video recorded. They don’t charge a commission on sales – instead, they charge a monthly listing fee. Worldwide, 70%+ consumers plan to buy used goods this year with 86% buying or selling pre-loved items in the last 12 months (eBay 2024 Recommerce Report, May).
