#PlacemakingUS 61st IMCL CONFERENCE WILL FOCUS ON IMPLEMENTATION WITH LEADERS OF TOP INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS. The conference will bring together mayors, developers, researchers, practitioners, and NGO leaders to exchange peer-to-peer insights and share the most effective tools and strategies for building and revitalizing a new generation of livable cities. Partners in the Cortona conference will include The King's Foundation (UK), UN-Habitat, the Congress for the New Urbanism, INTBAU, The Seaside Institute, HealthBridge, the Urban Guild, and others to be announced. THEME: As humanity confronts multiple historic challenges, our settlements and their characteristics are set to play a central role – especially so in a time of historic rapid urbanization. Our cities, towns and suburbs are where we interact, move about, consume resources, develop and deploy our technologies, and create most of the impacts we are having on Planet Earth. In that sense, our settlements are major contributors to our challenges – but they also offer an important platform for joining up key issues of emissions and contamination, resource use and depletion, and ecological destruction, as well as opportunities for equitable human development, health, and well-being. I'm very interested to see this as a Senior Fellow of the Institute of Institute of Place Management . After reading the Georgetown University report on international practices of place management, which states that place management is essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, it's clear that the focus on implementation, as highlighted in this conference, is critical. It is imperative that policy makers understand place management approaches so pleased to see you bringing together mayors, developers, and NGO leaders to discuss these important topics to shape the next generation of livable cities. Looking forward to the insights and outcomes from this event!
